conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring LORD had respect unto Abel and to his forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. (17) And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it cursed is the ground for thy sake; in 'toil shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; (18) thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; (19) in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. (20) And the man called his wife's name 2Eve; because she was the mother of all living. (21) And the LORD God made for Adam and for his wife coats of skins, and clothed them.

(22) And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: (23) therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. (24) So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden the Cherubim, and the flame of a sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

offering he had not respect. And Cain
was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
(6) And the LORD said unto Cain, Why_
art thou wroth? and why is thy counte-
nance fallen? (7) If thou doest well,
shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou
doest not well, sin coucheth at the door:
and unto thee shall be his desire, and thou
shalt rule over him. (8) And Cain told
Abel his brother. And it came to pass,
when they were in the field, that Cain rose--
up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
(9) And the LORD said unto Cain, Where
is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know
not: am I my brother's keeper? (10)
And he said, What hast thou done? the
voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto
me from the ground. (11) And now
cursed art thou from the ground, which
hath opened her mouth to receive thy
brother's blood from thy hand; (12) when
thou tillest the ground, it shall not hence-
forth yield unto thee her strength; a fugi-
tive and a wanderer shalt thou be in the
earth. (13) And Cain said unto the LORD,
My punishment is greater than I can
bear. (14) Behold, thou hast driven me
out this day from the face of the ground;
and from thy face shall I be hid; and I
shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the
earth; and it shall come to pass, that
whosoever findeth me shall slay me. (15)
And the LORD said unto him, Therefore
whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall
be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD
appointed a sign for Cain, lest any finding
him should smite him.
