3,209,059 IRELAND—REVENUE.—The net produce of the revenue of Ireland, for the year ending Jan. 5, 1855, was 5,434,8061.; of which 1,852,1081. was produced by Customs Duties; 2,208,5801. by Excise; 453,8131. by Stamps; 549,0101. by Property and Income Tax; 10,0001, by the Post Office; 300l. by small branches of the Hereditary Revenue, and 360,9951. from miscellaneous sources, including repayment of advances.

INCOME TAX.- In the year ending April 5, 1854, the total number of persons charged to the Income Tax, under Schedule D, in Great Britain was 265,796; the net amount was 2,057,9241.; of the total number 20,544 were charged for incomes under 1001. a-year. In this schedule 121,983 were charged for incomes between 1001. and 1501. a-year, producing the largest amount of tax of any one class, being 282,3591., on a gross income of 12,033,0271. ; 39 persons are charged on incomes of 50,0001. a-year and upwards. Under Schedule E, 69,588 persons are charged, 15,245 for incomes under 1001., and 53 for incomes exceeding 5,000l. Under Schedule A, the amount raised is 2,888,638l. ; under B, 367,331l, ; under C, 757,3391., but the numbers charged are not given, In Ireland, under Schedule D, 16,686 persons are charged; 3,148 are below 1001. a-year, 22 are between 10,000l. and 50,000l., but none are above the last sum. Uuder Schedule E, 4,127 persons are charged, of whom 1,695 are below 1001. a-year: The amounts for Ireland are, Schedule A, 333,9271.; B, 27,0801.; C, 42,3271.; D, 125,8221.; E, 22,8511. The gross total was 6,991,1491.; of which 5,834,7281. was contributed by England, 554,4141. by Scotland, and 552,0071. by Ireland. It is noticeable that Ireland is somewhat under Scotland.

LEGACY AND PROBATE DUTY.—The amount of Legacy Duty paid in 1854 was, in Great Britain, 1,458,211l., on a capital amounting to 55,091,4341.; in Ireland, the duty was 71,0731., on a capital of 3,282,7271. In this return the succession duty, under the 16 and 17 Vict., cap. 51, is included. The stamp duty on Probates, Administrations, and Testamentary Inventories, in the same year, was 1,104,7361. for England and Scotland, and 72,175l. for Ireland.
