2. Why is the Church called Holy?

A. Not that every Member is holy, Matth. xiii. 24, 30, 47, 49. Another Parable put be forth unto them, faying, The Kingdom of Heaven is likened unto a man which fowed good feed in his field. Let both grow together until the barveft: and in the time of harvest, I will fay to the reapers, gather ye together firft the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like unto a net that was caft into the fea, and gathered of every kind. So fhall it be at the end of the world: the Angels fhall come forth, and fever the wicked from among the juft.

But the whole, Eph. v. 25, 26, 27. Husbands love your Wives even as Chrift alfe loved the Church and gave himself for it; that he might fantify and cleanfe it with the washing of water, by the word, That he might prefent it to himself a glorious Church, not having Spot or wrinkle, or any Such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

And they fung a new fong, faying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the Seals thereof, for thou waft flain, and haft redeemed us to God thy blood, out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.

2. Why needful to believe this?

A. Acts ii. 47. Praifing God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the eburch daily fuch as fhould be faved."

The Communion of the Saints.

2. What do ye mean by Saints.

A. All that are Baptized, or in the Church, are called to be Saints, Rom. i. 7. To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be Saints, grace to you, and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jefus Chrift. 2 Tim. i. 9. Who bath faved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace which was given us in Chrift Fefus, before the world began. 2 Tim. ii. 19. Neverthelefs the foundation of God ftandeth fure, having this feal, the Lord knoweth them that are bis; and let every one that nameth the name of Chrift depart from iniquity. They only are real Saints who perform their Baptifmal Vow, 2 Cor vii. 1. Having therefore thefe Promifes (dearly beloved) let

us

us cleanse our felves from all filthiness of the flesh and Spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 1 Pet. 1. 5. But as he which hath called you is boly, fo be ye boly in all manner of converfati

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of Sins, and Inheritance among them which are fanctified by faith that is in me.

That which we have feen and beard, declare we unto you, that ye alfo may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jefus Chrift. And with one another as Saints, 1 John i. 7. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jefus Chrift his Son cleanseth us from all fin.

2. How is this Body or Society made?

A. By the Spirit of God uniting them in Chrift to one another, Epb. i. 22, 24. And bath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be

the

the head over all things to the Church, which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. Eph. iv. 4, 5, 16. There is one body and one fpirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling, one Lord, one Faith, one Baptifm. From whom the whole Body fully joined together, and compacted by that which every joint Supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body, unto the edifying of it felf in Love. 1 Cor. xii. 12, 13, 20. For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: So alfo is Chrift. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. But now are they many members, yet but one body.

Q. Why do we believe this?

A. That we may ftrive to be of this Body or Communion, Col. i. 12. Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the faints in light.
