2. We should love and honour him, Matth. x. 37. He that loveth Father or Mother more than me, is not worthy of me: and he that loveth Son or Daughter more than me, is not worthy of me. I Cor. xvi. 22. If any Man love not the Lord Jefus Chrift, let him be anathema, maranatha.

Q. Why is Jefus called Chrift?

A. Because he was anointed Meffiah, Dan. ix. 15, 16. Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the Commandment to restore and to build Jerufalem, unto the Meffiah the Prince, fhall be feven Weeks; and threescore and two Weeks the Street hall be built again, and the Wall, even in troublous times; and after threefcore and two Weeks fball Meffiah be cut off, but not for himself. John i. 41. He first findeth his own Brother Simon, and faith unto him We bave found the Meffias, which is, being interpreted, the Chrift.

Q. What was he anointed with?

A. The Holy Spirit, A&t. x. 38. God anointedJefus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost, and with Power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the Devil: for God was with

Q. Why?

A. To be a Prophet, Prieft, and King; all which, none but he ever was.

Q. Why was he anointed a Prophet?

A. To make known God's Will to us, Ifai. Ixi. r. The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the mek, he hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim Liberty to the Captives, and the opening of the Prison to them that are bound. Luc. iv. 18. The

Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor, he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of fight to the blind, to fet as liberty them that are bruised. A&t. iii. 22. For Mofes truly faid unto the Fathers, a Prophet fhall the Lord your God raise up unto you, of your Brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. Deut. xvi. 15. The Lord thy God will raife up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy Brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken.

Q. Why a Prieft?

A. To make atonement and interceffion for us, Heb. vii. 24, 25. But this man, because he continueth ever, bath an unchangeable Priesthood. Wherefore he is able alfo to fave them to the uttermoft, that come unto God by him, feeing he ever liveth to make interceffion for them.

Q. Why a King? Pfalm ii. 26. The Kings of the earth fet themselves, and the Rulers take councel together against the Lord and against his anointed. Ver. 6. Tet have I set my King upon my holy bill of Zion?

A. To rule, govern and reward us, A& v. 31. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give Repentance to Ifrael, and forgiveness of Sins. Matt. xxviii. 18, 20. And Jefus came, and Spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Teaching them to obferve all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway even unto the end of the World. Amen.

A. God's, 1 John v. 5. Who is he that overcometh the World, but he that believeth that Jefus is the Son of God.

A. Because the only begotten, John iii. 16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not pe rish, but have everlasting life. John v. 26. For as the Father hath life in himself, fa hath be given to the Son to have life in himself.

Q. If begotten of God he is God too, how doth that appear?

A. John i. 1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Rom. ix. 5. Whofe are the Father's, and of wham as concerning the flesh Chrift came, who is over all, God bleffed for ever, Amen. Ifai. ix. 6. For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government shall be upon his Shoulder: and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Councellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.

Q. Is he then equal to the Father?

A. Yes. Phil. ii. 6. Who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God. John x. 30. I and my Father are one.

Q. Muft we then honour and worship the Son as we do the Father?

A. Yes. John v. 23. That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father, which hath fent him. Heb. i. 6. And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he faith, and let all the Angels of God worship him.

A. 1. That we fhould admire God's love to us, 1 Job. iv. 9, 10. In this was manifefted the love of God towards us, because that God fent his only begotten Son into the World, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and fent bis fon to be the Propitiation for our fins.

2 Is Chrift ever called the Lord?

A. Yes, Jehovah, Ifai. xl. 3. The voice of bin that crieth in the Wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, make ftrait in the defert a Highway for our God. Matth. iii. 3. For this is he that was Spoken of by the Prophet Efaias, faying, the voice of one crying in the Wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths ftrait. Jer. xxiii. 6. In bis days Judah fhall be faved, and Ifrael fhall dwell fafely and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The Lord our Righteousness.

2. Why the Lord in that fenfe?

A. Because he gives Being to all things, fob. i. 13. Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but God.

2. Is he not Lord alfo as Man?

A. Yes, Rom. xiv. 9. For to this end Chrift both died, and rofe, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. Eph. i. 20, 21. Which be wrought in Chrift, when he Taifed him from the dead, and fet him at his VOL. I.

Q. Why our Lord?

A. Not only by Creation, but Redemption, Job. xx. 28. But Thomas answered and faid, my Lord and my God, 1 Cor. vii. 22, 23. For he that is called in the Lord, being a fervant, is the Lord's freeman likewife alfo be that is called being free, is Chrift's Servant. Ye are bought with a price, be not ye the Servants of men. Joh. xiii. 13. Te call me Mafter and Lord: and ye fay well; for fo I

What follows from hence?

A. 1. That we worship him, Phil. ii. 9, 10, 11. Wherefore God alfo bath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name; that at the name of Jefus every knee shall bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth. And that every Tongue fhould confefs, that Jefus Chrift is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Heb. i. 6. And again, when he bringeth the first begotten into the World, he faith, and let all the Angels of God worship bim.

2. Serve him, Rom. xvi. 18. For they that are fuck, ferve not our Lord Jefus Chrift, but their own belly; and by good words and fair Speeches deceive the hearts of the fimple. 1 Cor. vi. 20. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorifie God in your body, and in your Spirit, which are God's. Luk. vi. 46. And why call ye me Lord,
