13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor; 14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud; 15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob; 16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations. 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS; for he shall save his people from their sins. 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with 13 Y Zorobabel engendró á Abiud: y Abiud engendró á Eliaquim: y Eliaquim engendró á Azor: 14 Y Azor engendró á Sadoc: y Sadoc engendró á Aquim: y Aquim engendró á Eliud : 15 Y Eliud engendró á Eleázar: y Eleázar engendró á Matan: y Matan engendró á Jacob: 16 Y Jacob engendró á Josef, marido de María, de la cual nació Jesus, el cual es llamado el Cristo. 17 De manera que todas las generaciones desde Abraham hasta David son catorce generaciones: y desde David hasta la trasmigracion de Babilonia, catorce generaciones: y desde la trasmigracion de Babilonia hasta Cristo, catorce generaciones. 18 Y el nacimiento de Jesu-Cristo fué así: que siendo María su madre desposada con Josef, ántes que se juntasen, se halló haber concebido del Espíritu Santo. 19 Y Josef su marido, como era justo, y no quisiese infamarla, quiso dejarla secretamente. 20 Y pensando él en esto, hé aquí el ángel del Señor le aparece en sueños, diciendo: Josef, hijo de David, no temas de recibir á María tu mujer; porque lo que en ella es engendrado, del Espíritu Santo es. 21 Y parirá Hijo, y llamarás su nombre JESUS, porque él salvará su pueblo de sus pecados. 22 Todo esto aconteció para que se cumpliese lo que fué dicho por el Señor por el profeta, que dijo: 23 Hé aquí la vírgen concebirá, child, and shall bring forth a son, y parirá hijo, y llamarás su nombre and they shall call his name Em- Emmanuel, que declarado, es: Con manuel, which being interpreted is, nosotros Dios. NOW CHAPTER II. when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judæa in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. 3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. 5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judæa: for thus it is written by the prophet, 6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. 7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word 24 Y despertando Josef del sueño, hizo como el ángel del Señor le habia mandado, y recibió á su mujer. 25 Y no la conoció hasta que parió á su Hijo primogénito: y llamó su nombre JESUS. Y CAPITULO 2. CHAPTER III. 17 Entonces fué cumplido lo que se habia dicho por el profeta Jeremías, que dijo: 18 Voz fué oida en Ramá, grande lamentacion, lloro, y gemido; Raquel que llora sus hijos; y no quiso ser consolada, porque perecieron. 19 Mas muerto Heródes, hé aquí el ángel del Señor aparece en sueños á Josef en Egipto, 20 Diciendo: Levántate, y toma al Niño y á su madre, y véte á tierra de Israel; que muertos son los que procuraban la muerte del Niño. 21 Entonces él se levantó, y tomó al Niño, y á su madre, y se vino á tierra de Israel. 22 Y oyendo que Arqueláo reinaba en Judéa en lugar de Heródes su padre, temió ir allá; mas amonestado por revelacion en sueños, se fué á las partes de Galiléa. 23 Y vino, y habitó en la ciudad que se llama Nazaret: para que se cumpliese lo que fué dicho por los profetas, que habia de ser llamado Nazareno. CAPITULO 3. IN those days came John the Bap-YEN aquellos dias vino Juan el tist, preaching in the wilderness of Judæa, 2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 4 And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern Bautista predicando en el desierto de Judéa, 2 Y diciendo: Arrepentios, que el reino de los cielos se ha acercado. 3 Porque este es aquel del cual fué dicho por el profeta Isaías, que dijo: Voz de uno que clama en el desierto: Aparejad el camino del Señor, enderezad sus veredas. 4 Y tenia Juan su vestido de pelos de camellos, y una cinta de girdle about his loins; and his meat | cuero alrededor de sus lomos; y was locusts and wild honey. su comida era langostas, y miel silvestre. 5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judæa, and all the region round about Jordan, 6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. 7¶ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: 9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. 10 And now also the ax is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: 12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. 13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. 14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? 15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus 5 Entonces salia á él Jerusalem, y toda Judéa, y toda la provincia de alrededor del Jordan. 6 Y eran bautizados de él en el Jordan, confesando sus pecados. 7 Y viendo él muchos de los Fariseos y de los Saducéos, que venian á su bautismo, decíales: Generacion de víboras, ¿quién os ha enseñado á huir de la ira que vendrá? 8 Haced pues frutos dignos de arrepentimiento; 9 Y no penseis decir dentro de vosotros: A Abraham tenemos por padre; porque yo os digo, que puede Dios despertar hijos á Abraham aun de estas piedras. 10 Ahora, ya tambien la segur está puesta á la raiz de los árboles: y todo árbol que no hace buen fruto, es cortado y echado en el fuego. 11 Yo á la verdad os bautizo en agua para arrepentimiento: mas el que viene tras mí, más poderoso es que yo; los zapatos del cual yo no soy digno de llevar: él os bautizará en Espíritu Santo, y en fuego. 12 Su aventador en su mano está, y aventará su era; y allegará su trigo en el alfolí, y quemará la paja en fuego que nunca se apagará. 13 Entónces Jesus vino de Galiléa á Juan al Jordan, para ser bautizado de él. 14 Mas Juan lo resistia mucho, diciendo: Yo he menester ser bautizado de tí, ¿ y tú vienes á mí ? 15 Empero respondiendo Jesus le dijo: Deja ahora: porque así nos |
