The Knights Companions then proceeded to an election, and the suffrages having been collected by the Chancellor, were by him presented to the Sovereign, who commanded him to declare, and he accordingly declared, that the Right Honourable Dudley, Earl of Harrowby, had been duly elected a Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.

Then, by command of the Sovereign, his Lordship was received at the door of the Chapter-room by the Marquess of Westminster and the Duke of Devonshire, the two junior Knights present, ind conducted between them to Her Majesty, receded by Garter, bearing the ensigns of the Order.
