saying,Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel. 8 How shall I curse;whom God hath not curs. ed? or how shall I defy, whom the Lord hath not defied ? 9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him; lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations. 10 Who can count the dust of Ja. cob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel ? Let me die the death of the righieous, and let my last end be like his! 19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent : hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good ?20 Behold, I have received commandment to bless : and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.

21 He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel : the Lord his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.

Chap. XXIV. Balaam's Prophecy. 2 And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him. 5 How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel ! 6 As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river's side. 8 God brought him forth out of Egypi ; he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows. 9 Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee. 17 I shall see him, but not now; Į shall behold him, but not nigh : there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of

Sheth. 19 Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city.

DEUTERONOMY.

CHAP. V. The Covenant in Horeb. AND Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn. them, and keep and do them. 2 The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. 3 The Lord made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day. 4 The Lord talked with you face to face in the mount, out of the midst of the fire. 23 And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your el. ders ; 24 And ye said, Behold, the Lord our God hath shewed us his glory, and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire : : we have seen this day that God doth talk

and he liveih. 28 And the Lord said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee : they have well said all that they have spoken. 29 Oh that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever !

CHAP. VI. Exhortation to Obedience. Now, these are the commandments, the sta. tutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it : Hear, O Israel ; the Lord our God is one Lord : 5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.. 8 And thou shali bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. 9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. 20 And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, say. ing, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord our God hath commanded you ? 21 Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bond men in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 24 And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always. 25 And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these com. mandments before the Lord our God.

CHAP. XVI. The Passover. In the month of Abib, the Lord thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt. 2 Thou shalt therefore sacrifice the passover unto the Lord thy

God, of the flock and the herd, in the place which the Lord shall choose to place his name there. 3 Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction ; (for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste;) that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life. 8 Six days shalt thou eat unleavened bread: and on the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to the Lord thy God : thou shalt do no work therein. 16 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the Lord thy God in the place which he shall choose ; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles : and they shall not apo pear before the Lord empty: 17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee.

CHAP. XXXII. The Song of Moses. Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth., 2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew; as the small rain upon

the ten: der herb, and as the showers upon

3 Because I will publish the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. 4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect ; for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth, and without iniquity, just and right is he. 7 Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations : ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee. 8 When the Most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the chil. dren of Israel. 10 He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness: he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. 11 As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings; 12 So the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.

18 Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee. 20 And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be : for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith. 29 Oh that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end ! 30 How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, ex. cept their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up ? 31 For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges. 39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

40 For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever. 41 If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate

43 Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people : for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, and to his people.

45 And Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel. 46 And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I

me.
