E 286 .055 Red-Hook, July 5, 1826. Rev. MR. CHOULES, DEAR SIR-At the unanimous recommendation, and by the particular request of the company who celebrated the 50th Anniversary of American Independence at Peter De Remer's, in the town of Red-Hook, we, the Committee of Arrangements, on their behalf, do tender you our sincere thanks for the very eloquent and impressive address delivered on the 4th inst.; and, under the full conviction that's your excellent and appropriate Oration is eminently calculated to advance the cause of our country, werespectfully solicit a copy for publication. We remain, A. G. BENEDICT, Red-Hook Academy, July 6, 1826. GENTLEMEN-I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your polite communication, requesting a copy of my address for publication. I am sensibly affected with the honor which I received when your kindness selected me, from numbers who were more competent, to a due discharge of so interesting a duty. I labored under peculiar embarrassments: I love the land of my birth--I glory in the country of my choice! Reason tells me that my partialities are well justified. I enclose you the address, believing that the candor which characterized the audience to whom it was delivered, will pardon the many faults incident to a composition produced at a short notice, and amidst numerous and important duties wbich admitted of no suspension. I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, JOHN OVERTON CHOULES. 10 MESSR9. A. G BENEDICT, J. ELTING, Jun |
