scended from March weithian, founder of the Eleventh Tribe of North Wales. His name appears on the list of Grand Jury, 4 James I (1606), also in 1612, 1625, 1626, and April 1627. He had issue a son,

WILLIAM, who by his wife Margaret, daughter of Evan Lloyd of Ceiswyn, Esq., had two sons, Thomas and Humphrey. His name, as "Willi'mus Thomas de Gwerneybulch, Gen.", appears on the list of Grand Jury for 1627 (Oct.), 1635, and 1648.

THOMAS WILLIAMS married Mary, daughter of John Jenkyns, by whom he had a son, William. Thomas Williams's name is on the list from which the Grand Jury were selected in 1654-5. He was also on the Grand Jury in 1662.

WILLIAM THOMAS of Pentref Cynddelw married, 6th May 1668, Margaret, daughter of Humphrey Jones of Clegyrddwr, ab Gruffydd Jones ab Humphrey Jones of Clegyrddwr, ab John ab Ieuan ab Maurice ab Ieuan Goch ab Maredydd Fychan of Maesmawr in Arwystli, ab Maredydd ab Philip ab Gruffydd ab Maredydd ab Einion ab Cynfelyn, Lord of Manafon, fourth in descent from Cadwgan ab Bleddyn ab Cynfyn, Prince of Powys. Margaret Thomas was buried 9th Oct. 1694. Of this marriage there was issue-Thomas (who appears to have died without issue), Humphrey, Mary, Griffith, and Margaret. Mary and Margaret died in childhood. William Thomas was on the Grand Jury in 1665, 1668, 1674, and 1681.

HUMPHREY WILLIAMS of Pentref. He married Mabel, daughter of Jenkin Lloyd of Clochfaen, and had issue Martha, Ann, Margaret, Esther, Susannah, and Mabel, all of whom died in infancy, except Ann, who married John Jones, son of the Rev. William Jones, Rector of Llanymowddwy. Humphrey Williams died without male issue (buried 9th Aug. 1727), and the estate passed to his brother Griffith's eldest son, GWILYM WILLIAMS, born 30th April 1704. He was succeeded by his son,

Anne, daughter of Owen of Dolffanog, Talyllyn, Merionethshire, and had issue by her Catherine, Anne, Martha (who died in infancy), Mary, William, Elizabeth, Humphrey, Thomas, Jane, and Griffith. His wife was buried 2nd June 1795-he himself on the 21st Nov. 1823, aged 71. He was succeeded at Pentremawr by his son,

WILLIAM WILLIAMS, born 16th Oct. 1778, who married Mary, daughter of Thomas Jones of Esgair Evan (see ante, p. 57), by whom he had issue Gwilym (who succeeded him), Thomas, Humphrey, Elizabeth, Anne (who died unmarried), Jane, and Mary.

GWILYM WILLIAMS married Elizabeth, daughter of Edward Hughes, Cwmcarnedd isaf, by whom he had issue William, born April 7, 1840; Elizabeth, born June 30, 1841; Mary, born June 28, 1844; Sarah, born April 27, 1846; Edward Hughes, born Feb. 25, 1848; Dorothy, born Feb. 24, 1850; Thomas, born Oct. 29, 1852; and John, born in America.

Mr.

Williams, in 1856, sold his ancient patrimony, and emigrated to America. He died at Gomer, Ohio, about the year 1880. Pentremawr now belongs to Sir H. LI. Watkin Williams Wynn, Bart.

The nearest surviving relatives of Gwilym Williams now in this country are his sister Jane, the wife of Evan Evans, Gartheilyn, Llanfair Caereinion, and his uncle Griffith Williams's surviving children-Catherine Jervis of Tymawr, Llanbrynmair Village, and Humphrey Williams of Plas Edwards, Towyn. There are other more distant relatives.

1 The family of Hughes of Cwmcarnedd is one of the oldest and most highly respected in Llanbrynmair-having been settled here on its own property for several hundreds of years. "Edw. Hughes de Tavolwerne, Gen.", was on the Grand Jury in 1688 and afterwards. The family is still numerously represented.

Moelglas of Cawg, and by her had a son, IEUAN, who had a son DAVID, who had a son MORGAN, who had a son Richard and a daughter Mallt (who became the wife of Jenkin Lloyd of Clochfaen).

RICHARD MORGAN of Caelan (on Grand Jury 1669, 1673, 1674, 1680, and 1685) married Sarah, daughter of John Jones of Cawg,' and by her had a daughter and heiress, BRIDGET, who married her first-cousin, Morgan Lloyd of Clochfaen (who settled at Caelan, and who founded the Charity School at Llanbrynmair; see Mont. Coll., xix, p. 330), by whom she had Richard, Morgan, Margaret, Eubulus, John, and an unnamed son, all of whom died in infancy or childhood, Littleton (of whom again), and Sarah, who became the wife of Edward ap Richard of Ceniarth, descended from Einion ab Seisyllt, Lord of Mathafarn. Bridget Lloyd died in October 1696, and Morgan Lloyd married again. By his second wife he had a son, Rhys, who died a minor and unmarried.

LITTLETON LLOYD became a clergyman of the Established Church, but died without issue. He is described in a deed of 11th October 17262 as "Rector of the parish of Llan Llochaiarn, in the County of Montgomery, Gent." He died about 1734, and left £10, the interest to be paid to the Rector of Newtown for preaching a sermon on Good Friday, "as long as the Severn runs", 3

Yn bentai glân hyd Bant-y-glo."
