uniting the two families. By her he had a daughter, Elizabeth, and a son,

ANDREW OWEN of Gellidywyll (on Grand Jury 1661, 1663, and 1668), who married Ursula, daughter of Evan Glyn of Glyn Clywedog, in the parish of Llanidloes (marriage settlement dated 8th July 1652), by whom he had issue-Rondle; Richard, buried 12th August 1667; Edward, buried 9th May 1710; Thomas, baptised 7th April 1665; John, baptised 19th June 1667, buried 7th July 1669; Richard, baptised 25th Sept. 1669, buried 4th May 1675. Andrew Owen was buried 30th June 1670.

RONDLE (Randolphus) OWEN of Gellidywyll (on Grand Jury 1680) married Margery, daughter of

by whom he had issue-Elizabeth, born 1st Sept. 1688; Andrew and Thomas (twins), baptised 25th June 1690; Rondle (Randolphus), baptised 22nd Dec. 1692; Jane, baptised 22nd April 1695, buried 1st Sept. 1708; Henry, born 2nd May 1698, buried 17th Dec. 1743; Dorothy, born 2nd April 1700, buried 10th April 1710; Richard, born 10th April 1702; Anne, baptised 8th May 1704. Rondle Owen died before 1730. Margery Owen, his "widow", was buried 19th August 1736.

ANDREW OWEN of Gellidywyll married Anne Pryce of Gwestydd (described as "sister of John Pryce of Gwestydd Generosus" in settlement dated 13th Feb. 1730), and had issue Anne, baptised 25th March 1732, and Elizabeth, baptised 22nd Oct. 1735, who died about nine years old, leaving Anne Owen, the only child and heiress of Andrew Owen. John Pryce of Gwestydd, in the parish of Llanllwchaiarn, entered the army, distinguished himself at the battle of Dettingen, became a major, and was killed at the battle of Fontenoy. Major Pryce died without issue, leaving three sisters only, namely, Elizabeth, who married Richard Baxter of the Bryn; Jane, who married John Pryce of Penygelly or Goitre in Kerry; and Anne, who married Andrew Owen, as above stated. These three

sisters became, on the death of Major Pryce, coparceners of Gwestydd, which ultimately became the property of the late Francis Russell Loscombe, son of Major Wintringham Loscombe (see post), who sold it.

ANNE OWEN of Gellidywyll was married at St. Chad's, Shrewsbury, on the 23rd April 1750, being then eighteen years of age, to James Crosse of Shrewsbury, gentleman, who was born 21st Dec. 1725. He was of an ancient family, and bore for arms, as appears on the monument to his daughter, Mrs. Russell, in Llanbrynmair Church, quarterly 1st and 4th or, 2nd and 3rd gules, in the first quarter a cross flory. As appears from a deed executed by him in 1765, he also used a seal bearing quarterly gules and or; in the 1st and 4th quarters a cross crosslet; crest, a stork. It appears that Mr. and Mrs. Crosse were on very bad terms with Andrew Owen (Mrs. Crosse's father), and that in consequence of this the latter alienated Dolgadfan and other portions of the Gellidywyll estate, and settled them upon his nephew, David Griffiths, whom also by his will, dated 13th May 1755, he appointed his sole executor. Andrew Owen died 23rd

March 1764, his wife on 10th Jan. 1775. Mr. and Mrs. Crosse had issue thirteen children, of whom but three survived their father, namely, John, Edward, and Anne Browne Crosse. John died in the lifetime of his mother, leaving a widow, Sarah, and a daughter, Sarah. Edward died unmarried. James Crosse was buried at Llanbrynmair 24th April 1781. Mrs. Crosse in her will, dated 6th March 1805, is described as then of Streatham, Surrey. It was proved 21st May 1807.

ANNE BROWNE CROSSE, born 4th Sept. 1751, and baptised at St. Chad's Church, Shrewsbury, on the 5th October following, married, 17th July 1819, at Oswestry, Robert Russell of Exeter and Exmouth, Esq., who for arms bore, party per pale ermine and ermines, a lion rampant gules, on a chief wavy erminois three escallop shells or; crest, a goat ermines, collared

and banded erminois, on the band an escallop shell, as in the arms. Robert Russell died 23rd Sept. 1822. Mrs. Russell died without issue, 22nd April 1831, aged 79. (See inscription on her monument in Llanbrynmair Church, ante, vol. xix, p. 318.) Under her marriage settlement and her will, dated 7th July 1826, the Gellidywyll estate passed to Miss Anne Russell, born 19th July 1789, one of the daughters of the said Robert Russell by his first wife, Sarah Lathbury. From her it devolved upon her niece, the present owner, Miss Elizabeth Catherine Loscombe, eldest daughter of her sister Catherine, by her husband, Major Wintringham Loscombe, 18th Royal Irish. Major Loscombe bore, 1st and 4th, argent on a fesse azure, between three leopard's faces proper, a cross moline between two crosses crosslet or; 2nd and 3rd, argent, a chevron ermine cotised gules, between three leaves vert, for COOPER of Ardsley; crest for LoSCOMBE, a demi leopard proper, collared gules, holding in the dexter paw a cross moline, as in the arms; crest for COOPER, an arm erect proper, holding up a chaplet vert.

The Gellidywyll estate originally comprised, besides Gellidywyll itself, Bronderwgoed, Caemadog, Dolgadfan, and several smaller holdings, and it remained undivided until Andrew Owen (Mrs. Crosse's father) alienated Dolgadfan. Llwynowen was built about the middle of the last century, and was for some time the family residence after Gellidywyll ceased to be so. Until about twenty-five years ago several family portraits remained in the hall. Three of them are now at Gellidywyll Mills, and one is in the possession of D. Wintringham Stable, Esq., to whom I am indebted for much of the foregoing information.
