Bethfaida: for if the mighty works had been done latin (i) Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, Tthey had a great while ago repented, fitting in fack14 cloth and afhes. Now it came to pafs, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman 39 named Martha, received him into her houfe. AND it came to pafs, that as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceafed, one of his difciples faid unto him, Lord teach us to (a) pray, as John 2 alfo taught his difciples. And he faid unto them, When ye pray, fay, OUR FATHER, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, fo in earth. 3 Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive 4 us our fins; for we alfo forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. And he faid unto them, Which of you fhall have a friend, and fhall go unto him at midnight, and fay unto him, Friend, lend me three 6 loaves; For a friend of mine in his journey is come 7 to me, and I have nothing to fet before him: And he from within fhall anfwer and fay, Trouble me not: the door is now fhut, and my children are with me 8 in bed; I cannot rife and give thee. I fay unto you, Though he will not rife and give him, because he is his friend: yet because of his importunity, he will 9 rife and give him as many as he needeth. (a) This paffage affords an indifputable authority for praying by a fet form, and for ufing the fame words on different occafions, private and public: This form, which our Saviour gives at the particular requeft of one difciple, being the fame with that which he delivered to the multitude, in his ferinon on the mount. See Matt. vi. 9.

And he was cafting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pafs, when the devil was gone out, 15 the dumb fpake, and the people wondered. But fome of them faid, He cafteth out devils through Beelzebub, 16 the chief of the devils. And others, tempting him, 17 fought of him a fign from heaven. But he, knowing their thoughts, faid unto them, Every kingdom divided againft itfelf, is brought to defolation: and a 18 houfe divided against a houfe falleth. If Satan alfo be divided againft himself, how fhall his kingdom ftand becaufe ye fay, that I caft out devils through 19 Beelzebub. And if I by Beelzebub caft out devils, 24by whom do your fons caft them out? therefore fhall 20 they be your judges. your judges. But if I with the (c) finger of

God caft out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God 21 is come upon you. When a strong man armed 22 keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace. But when a ftronger than he fhall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour 23 wherein he trufted, and divideth his fpoils.
