God put Words into Aaron's Mouth, and the Disciples fpake as the Tit. iii. 5. Spirit gave them Utterance. You are faved by the washing of Regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Ghoft, and yet furely it is a Matter above all Difpute that God alone can fanctify; he that is born of the Spirit is born of God. He is the Comforter, and yet it is God who comforts them that are caft down. The Joys of the Holy Ghoft are the Confolations of God; for when he speaks Peace, who can give Trouble? 2 Cor. vi. You are the Temple of the Holy Ghost; that is, God dwells in you; and by this Relation to the third Perfon of the Trinity, you are called the Temple of the living God. Your Perfeverance is owing to the Spirit, who fhall guide and lead you into the Land of Uprightnefs: This is no Pf. lxxiii. other than God's guiding you by his Counsel, and receiving you up to his Glory.

2. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, are equal in their Influence upon the Believer, which is fuppofed, profeffed, and implored in the Or dinance of Baptifm. The Bleffings we have in our Eye, as fecured by the everlasting Covenant, come from each Perfon; as our Acceptance and Pardon, our Sanctification and Holiness, our Security and Perfeverance, our Communion and Fellowship, our Refurrection from the Dead,

our Admittance into Heaven, and our Enter- SERM. tainment there: These are the Bleflings of Bap- VI. tifm, fealed by it, promised in it, fignified and figured in every right Ufe of it; and yet Father, Son, and Holy Ghoft, are said to do them.

1.) Our Acceptance and Pardon, which is the great Bleffing of the New Covenant, are equally fpoke of with Regard to the Three that bear Record in Heaven. It is God that justifies, and Rom. viii. Chrift that died. It is the Father who makes us 33, 34accepted in the beloved. The God and Father Eph. i. 3. of our Lord Jefus Chrift has bleffed us with all fpiritual Bleflings in heavenly Things in Chrift John xvi. Jefus. The Father himself has loved you.

And is not this faid of the Son? Forgiveness belongs to him, that he may be feared. It appears by his fovereign Way of bestowing it on Earth, that it's be pardons Iniquity, Tranfgreffion, and Sin.

And though the Spirit is not represented either as fhedding the Blood of Atonement or accepting it, yet it is he who fprinkles it upon the Conscience. Chrift came both by Water and Blood, 1 John and it is the Spirit who bears Witnefs, for the v.6. Spirit is Truth. Ye are washed, ye are juftified, 1 Cor. vi. ye are fanctified, in the Name of the Lord Jefus, 11. and by the Spirit of our God.

2.) Our Sanctification and Holiness is derived from each Perfon in the divine Nature; none can come to Chrift except the Father draw him. John vi. The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 44. according to the Riches of his Glory, enlightens Eph. i. the Eyes of our Understanding; that we may know what is the Hope of his calling. This Work is attributed to our Lord in those great Words, both be that fanctifies and they who are fanctified are all of one, wherefore HE is not afhamed to call them Brethren. When we are faid to fee him as he is, it is immediately added, that he who has this Hope in him purifies him1 John iii. felf even as be, that is Chrift, is pure; for it is to be understood of him who was manifefted to take 2 Cor. iii. away our Sins. We behold as in a Glafs the James ii. Glory of the Lord, that is, of the Lord Jefus, the Lord of Glory, and are changed into the fame Image from Glory to Glory. He fent the Apostle Acts xxvi. to turn the Gentiles from Darkness to Light; that, fays be, they may receive Remiffion of their Sins, and an Inheritance among them that are fanctified by Faith that is in ME.

I need not stay to prove, that the Holy Ghoft is the Author of this Change. He convinces of Sin, and Righteoufnefs, and Judgment. He takes the Things of Chrift, and reveals them to us. It is the Spirit who quickens.

Our Communion and Fellowship is equally with the whole Trinity. If any Man love me, faith Chrift, he fhall be loved of my Father; and John xiv. we will come to him, and make our Abode with 20. him. Verily our Fellowship is with the Father 1 Johni.1. and with his Son Jefus Chrift. We pray to our Matt. vi. Father who is in Heaven. We call on the Fa- 9. ther, who, without Refpect of Perfons, will Pet. i. judge every Man according to his Works. And Pet. ii. yet, by Communion with Chrift we tafte that the 3, 4. Lord is gracious, the Lord who was chofen of God, and precious. By the holy Boldness and Courage that appeared in the Difciples, others took Knowledge they had been with Jefus. Now, Acts iv. we could have nothing of this Fellowship with- 13. out the Spirit. He helps our Infirmities; he Rom. viii. makes Interceffion in us according to the Will of 26. God. He fearches the deep Things of God and 1 Cor. ii. reveals them to us, that we may know the 10. Things that are freely given to us of God. By the Holy Ghost we are fealed to the Day of Re- Eph. iv. demption. He that ftablifheth us in Chrift and 30. has anointed us, is God, who has fealed us and given the Earneft of the Spirit in our Hearts.

They that are in their Graves fhall hear the Voice of the Son of Man, and they that hear fhall live. This is the Lord who is to defcend from Heaven with a Shout; whom the Dead in Chrift are to meet in the Air, and the whole Generation of the Faithful shall be caught up to; for they are all together to be ever with the Lord.

iv. 14. John v. 21, 28.

And yet, the Spirit is mentioned as the God who quickens the Dead. Chrift himself was declared to be the Son of God with Power by the Rom. i. 4. Spirit of Holiness in the Refurrection from the viii. 11. Dead. If the Spirit of him who raised up Jefus from the Dead dwell in your mortal Bodies, he that raised up Chrift from the Dead, fhall quicken your mortal Bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Baptifm is an Emblem, a Token, an Affurance of this. In that Ordinance you are rifen with Chrift, as a Figure of your rifing after bim; and that which makes it fo is not washing with Water, but being baptized with the Holy Ghoft and with Fire; this is the Breath that is to xxxvii. 9. breathe upon these flain, that they may live.
