THE Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for PSALM CXXi. 8.

evermore.

FATHER! whose hand hath led me so securely,
Father! whose ear hath listened to my prayer,
Father! whose eye hath watched o'er me so surely,
Whose heart hath loved me with a love so rare ;
Vouchsafe, O Heavenly Father, to instruct me
In the straight way wherein I ought to go,-
To life eternal, and to heaven conduct me,
Through health and sickness, and through weal and

woe.

SPITTA, TRANS. BY R. MASSIE.

OUR Father who art in heaven, direct our steps into the way of peace, and strengthen our hearts to obey thy commands; that we may adore thy mercy, follow thee for thy truth, desire thee for thy sweetness, who art the blessed Lord God, world without end. Amen.

LET me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely. SONG OF SOLOMON ii. 14.

AN ear

Quick to hear
Eternal melody,

An eye quick to see

All beauty, Christ, in thee;

A mouth

Seasoned with charity,

Softer than soft wind of the south,

Grant these, O Lord, to me.

A. E. H.

LORD Jesus Christ, sweetest guest, come into my heart, and be its dayspring from on high! For what beside this, O thou calm of my heart, could my soul seek for, or desire. Make me altogether thine, for my trust is in thee! Amen.

SEARCH me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. PSALM CXXXix. 23, 24.

SHINE on me, Lord! new life impart,
Fresh ardors kindle in my heart!
One ray of thy all-quickening light
Dispels the sloth and clouds of night.
Lord, lest the tempter me surprise,
Watch over thine own sacrifice,
All loose, all idle thoughts cast out,
And make my very dreams devout.

BISHOP KEN.

CLEANSE us, O Lord, by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit, that we may worthily magnify thy holy Name,

through Christ our Lord. Amen.

JESUS himself drew near, and went with them.

LUKE xxiv. 15.

My Master, in thine hand it is to measure
My times of work and weariness for thee:
My times of rest return at thy good pleasure,
By lake or mountain, wood or murmuring sea.
But to give sweetness to my hours of leisure,
Come thou thyself, O Lord, and rest with me.

JESUS

our Master, do thou meet us while we walk in the way, and long to reach at length thy heavenly country; so that, following thy light, we may keep the path of righteousness, and that thou wilt abide with us for evermore. We ask it for thine own Name's sake. Amen.

As

for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

JOSHUA xxiv. 15.

ONWARD, onward will we press

Through the path of duty;
Virtue is true happiness,

Excellence true beauty:

Minds are of supernal birth,
Let us make a heaven of earth.

MONTGOMERY.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, be thou present to our duties, and grant the protection of thy presence to all that dwell in this house: that thou mayest be known to be the defender of thy family, and the inhabitant of this dwelling; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
