3 The time draws nigh, when, from the clouds,
Christ shall with shouts descend;
And the last trumpet's awful voice,
The heavens and earth shall rend.

4 The saints of God, from death set free,
With joy shall mount on high;
The heavenly hosts, with praises loud,
Shall meet them in the sky.

5 Together to their Father's house,
With joyful hearts, they go;
And dwell forever with the Lord,
Beyond the reach of wo.

6 A few short years of evil past,
We reach the happy shore,
Where death-divided friends at last
Shall meet, to part no more.

[blocks in formation]

While I am a pilgrim here,

Let thy love my spirit cheer;

As my guide, my guard, my friend,
Lead me to my journey's end.

7s.

4

Shew me what I have to do;

Every hour my strength renew :

May I live a life of faith :

May I die thy people's death.

140.

Christ our surety.

1 ARISE, my soul, arise!

Shake off thy guilty fears;
The bleeding sacrifice,

In my behalf appears :

Before the throne my surety stands ;
My name is written on his hands.

2 He ever lives above,

For me to intercede;
His all-redeeming love,

His precious blood, to plead :
His blood atoned for all our race,
And sprinkles now the throne of grace.
3 Those bleeding wounds He bears,
Received on Calvary,

Pour forth effectual prayers;

They strongly plead for me:
"Forgive him, O forgive," they cry,
"Nor let that ransomed sinner die!"

4 I now am reconciled;

His pardoning voice I hear;
He owns me for his child;

I can no longer fear:

With confidence I now draw nigh,
And, "Father, Abba, Father!" cry.
Crown Him Lord of all.

LL hail! the power of Jesus' name;

A Let angels prostrate fall:

Bring forth the royal diadem,

And crown Him-Lord of all.

2 Ye risen saints attune the lyre:
And, as ye tune it, fall

Before his face, who formed the choir,
And crown Him-Lord of all.

3 Ye chosen seed of Israel's race,
Redeemed from Israel's fall,
Adore Him for his wondrous grace,
And crown Him-Lord of all.

4 Sinners, whose love can ne'er forget
The wormwood and the gall,
Go, spread your trophies at his feet,
And crown Him-Lord of all.

5 Let every kindred, every tribe,
On this terrestrial ball,

To Him all majesty ascribe,

And crown Him-Lord of all. 60 that with yonder sacred throng, We at his feet may fall;

1

Then join the everlasting song,
And crown Him-Lord of all.

"I am the God of Bethel."

GOD of Bethel! by whose hand
Thy people still are fed;

Who, through this weary pilgrimage,

Hast all our fathers led:

2 Our vows, our prayers, we now present
Before thy throne of grace:

God of our fathers! be the God
Of their succeeding race.

3 Through each perplexing path of life,
Our wandering footsteps guide:
Give us each day our daily bread;
And raiment fit provide.

4 O spread thy covering wings around,
Till all our wanderings cease;

And at our Father's loved abode,
Our souls arrive in peace.

5 Such blessings from thy gracious hand,
Our humble prayers implore;
And Thou shalt be our chosen God,
And portion evermore.

Christ's exaltation.

THAT equal honour shall we bring

To Thee, O Lord our God, the Lamb? When all the notes that angels sing,

Are far inferior to thy name.

2 Worthy is He, that once was slain,—

The Prince of peace, that groaned and died,—— Worthy to rise, and live, and reign,

At his almighty Father's side.

3 Blessings for ever on the Lamb,

Who bore the curse for wretched men ;
Let angels sound his sacred name,

144.1

And every creature say, Amen.

L

The invitation of the gospel,
ET every mortal ear attend,
And every heart rejoice;

The trumpet of the gospel sounds,
With an inviting voice.

2 Eternal wisdom has prepared
A soul-reviving feast;
And bids our longing appetites
The rich provision taste.

3 Rivers of love and mercy here,
In a rich ocean join ;
Salvation, in abundance, flows,

Like floods of milk and wine.

4 Dear Lord! the treasures of thy love
Are everlasting mines;

Deep as our helpless miseries are,
And boundless as our sins,

Leaning upon God.

EAD us, heavenly Father, lead us;
This we make our earnest plea :
Guide us, Lord, defend and feed us,
For we have no help but Thee:
Yet possessing every blessing,
If Thou, God, our Father be.

2 Saviour, breathe forgiveness o'er us;
All our weakness Thou dost know:
Thou didst tread this earth before us;
Thou didst feel its keenest woe;

Lone and dreary, faint and weary,
Through the desert Thou didst go.
3 Spirit of our God, descending,

146.

1

Fill our hearts with heavenly joy;
Love with every passion blending;
Pleasure that can never cloy :
Thus provided, pardoned, guided,
Nothing can our peace destroy.

"Let all the people praise Thee."

E merciful to us, O God!

B Upon thy people shine;

And spread thy saving truth abroad,
Till all that live are thine.

2 Give light and comfort to thine own;
And let that light extend,

Till thy prevailing name is known,
To earth's remotest end.

3 Let all the people praise Thee, Lord!
Let all their homage bring:

From sea to sea be Thou adored,
Redeemer, Judge, and King.
