105. God's glory revealed in nature and grace. L.M. 1. YREAT God! the heavens thy power proclaim; Earth echoes back thy mighty name;

Thy glory gilds returning days,

And nights in silence speak thy praise.
2 All nature sings thy boundless love,
In worlds below, and worlds above;
But in thy glorious word I trace
Diviner wonders of thy grace.

3 There what delightful truths I read!
There I behold a Saviour bleed:
His name salutes my listening ear,
Revives my heart, and checks my fear.
4 There Jesus bids my sorrows cease,
And gives my labouring conscience peace;
Raises my grateful passions high;
And points to mansions in the sky.
5 Hail, great Immanuel! let my song,
Through endless years, thy praise prolong;
And distant climes thy name adore,

106.

Till time and nature are no more.

ARTH,

EAR

God is love.

with her ten thousand flowers;
Air, with all its storms and showers;
Ocean's infinite expanse;

Heaven's resplendent countenance :-
All around, and all above,

Bear the record,—God is love.

2 Sounds among the vales and hills,
In the woods, and by the rills,
Of the breeze, and of the bird,
By the gentle summer stirred:-
All these sounds, beneath, above,
Have one chorus,-God is love.

3 All the hopes and fears that start
From the fountain of the heart;
All the quiet bliss that lies
In our human sympathies:-
These are voices from above,
Sweetly whispering,-God is love.
4 But the great Redeemer's birth;
All He did and said on earth;
All his agonies and woes;
All the gifts his hand bestows;
All his pleadings now above;
Loudest publish,-God is love.

Heaven.

1 HERE is a land of pure delight,
Where saints immortal reign;
Infinite day excludes the night,
And pleasures banish pain.
2 There everlasting spring abides,
And never withering flowers:
Death, like a narrow sea, divides
This heavenly land from ours.

3 Sweet fields beyond the swelling flood
Stand dressed in living green :
So to the Jews old Canaan stood,
While Jordan rolled between.

4 Could we but climb where Moses stood,
And view the landscape o'er,

Not Jordan's stream, nor death's cold flood,
Should fright us from the shore.

A

Praise to the Lamb.

WAKE! and sing the song

Of Moses and the Lamb;

Wake every heart and every tongue,
To praise the Saviour's name.

S.M.

109.

2 Sing of his dying love;
Sing of his rising power;
Sing how He intercedes above,
For us whose sins He bore.
3 Sing on your heavenly road,
Ye sons of glory sing;

Rejoice ye in the Lamb of God,
In Christ th' eternal King.

4 Soon shall we hear Him say,
"Ye blessed children, come !
Soon will He call us hence away,
To our eternal home.

5 There shall our raptured tongues
His endless praise proclaim;
And sweeter voices tune the song
Of Moses and the Lamb.

THOU

God seen in his works.
ПHOU art, O God! the life and light
Of all this wondrous world we see;
Its glow by day, its smile by night,

Are but reflections caught from Thee.
Where'er we turn thy glories shine;
And all things bright and fair are thine.
2 When day, with farewell beam delays,
Among the opening clouds of even;
And we can almost think we gaze
Through golden vistas into heaven ;—
Those hues that mark the sun's decline,
So soft, so radiant, Lord, are thine.
3 When night with darkness has dispelled
The radiance of the earth and skies,
In yon etherial arch are held

Unnumbered orbs, whence glory flies ;-
That gorgeous arch, those orbs sublime,
So bright, so countless, Lord, are thine.

4 When youthful spring around us breathes,
Thy Spirit warms her fragrant sigh;
And every flower the summer wreathes,
Is born beneath that kindling eye.
Where'er we turn, thy glories shine,
And all things fair and bright are thine.
"He is the King of glory."

HAR

ARK! ten thousand voices sounding,
Far and wide, throughout the sky;
"Tis the voice of joy abounding;-

Jesus lives, no more to die.
Come, ye saints, your tribute bring;
Crown Him everlasting King!
2 Jesus lives; his conflict over;

Lives to claim his great reward;
Angels round the victor hover,
Crowding to behold their Lord.
Come, ye saints, your tribute bring;
Crown Him everlasting King!
3 Day and night they cry before Him,
Holy, holy, holy, Lord!"

111.

1

All the powers of heaven adore Him,
And obey his sovereign word.
Come, ye saints, your tribute bring;
Crown Him everlasting King!

The glories of the Lamb.

BEHOL

EHOLD the glories of the Lamb,
Amidst his Father's throne:
Prepare new honours for his name,
And songs before unknown.

2 To Him who once for us was slain,
Be endless blessings paid;
Salvation, glory, joy, remain
For ever on thy head.

1

3 Thou hast redeemed our souls with blood;
Hast set the prisoners free;

Hast made us kings and priests to God;
And we shall reign with Thee.

Human redemption.

Now let us join our hearts and tongues,

And emulate the angels' songs;

Now sinners may address their King,
In songs that angels cannot sing.

2 They praise the Lamb that once was slain ;
Yet we can add a higher strain ;-
Not only say He suffered thus,
But, that He suffered all for us.

3 But, Lord, how faint our praises rise;
O'tis the wonder of the skies,

That we, who share thy richest love,
So cold and unconcerned should prove!

4 O glorious hour! it comes with speed,
When we, from sin and darkness freed,
Shall Jesus see, who died for man,
And praise Him more than angels can.

WH

Union in heaven.

HILE in the world we still remain,
We only meet to part again;
But when we reach the heavenly shore,
We then shall meet to part no more.

2 The hope that we shall see that day,
Should chase our present griefs away;
A few short years of conflict past,
We meet around the throne at last.
