Commercial Policy-Customs-Corn Laws-Adjourned Debate
on Mr. P. Miles's Amendment to the Government Proposition
relating to the Commercial Policy of the Country (Twelfth
Night)-Amendment negatived-Division Lists, &c.
March 2. Forged Petitions-Motion of Mr. C. Berkeley for the Appoint-
ment of a Select Committee to ascertain the Circumstances
under which a certain Petition purporting to be from Chelten-
ham, but which had been sent from Manchester, was presented
to that House-Petition referred

Thanks to the Army in India-Victories of Moodkee and Feroze-

shah-Resolutions as moved by Sir R. Peel conveying the

Thanks of the House of Commons to the Army in India—

Amendment of Sir De Lacy Evans, That the Names of the

Non-Commissioned Officers and Privates be recorded in such

manner as the Forms of the House should permit-Amendment

withdrawn-Resolutions put seriatim, and carried nem, con. 385

Total and Immediate Repeal of the Corn Laws-House in Com-

mittee on the Customs and Corn Importation Acts-On Ques-

tion, "That in lieu of the Duties now payable on the Importa-

tion of Corn, Grain, Meal, or Flour, there shall be paid until

the 1st of February, 1849, the following Duties"-Amnend-

ment of Mr. Villiers, "To leave out the words in lieu of' in

the original Motion, in order to insert the words all Duties on

Imported Corn do now cease and determine'"-Motion of Mr.

Borthwick, "That the Chairman report Progress, and ask

leave to sit again"-Committee divided-Motion negatived--
