One of the author’s perks as sports director of a Davenport, Iowa, radio and television station was attending dinner meetings and social outings of the Davenport Quarterback Club. Hal Hart (pen name of Hal Hartvigsen) grew up in a small Iowa farm town and in Iowa City, home of the University of Iowa, where he graduated with a journalism degree and where he began his broadcasting career doing play-by-play of Big Ten football and basketball games on the university radio station. Several years later he changed his career to public relations, eventually joining an international public relations agency in New York City.
