have a short account of the way in which last Christmas day was spent by the Christians who have been gathered out in that great heathen city, you will see that the Chinese Christians show their thankfulness for the love of God to them in a very real way. First, like Woe-seng, by making a thank-offering of themselves, and then by bringing thank-offerings of their substance.

Mr. Valentine says, "Several adults were confirmed on Christmas day, when they received the first communion. On that day we had the largest number of communicants ever seen in our little church, the number of natives being thirteen men and two women. The next day I baptized a countryman belonging to the Li-ts district, who received the name of Woe-seng, "Born of grace," a very suitable name, I thought when I heard it, for a Christian to receive on his baptism, the day following the celebration of the birth of Christ.

On Christmas day the offering from fifteen natives consisted of one dollar and 1360 cash, or about nine shillings. Amongst the offerings we found a dollar wrapped in a slip of red paper, with an inscription which may be thus translated:

"Heartily thanking the Lord for His grace in giving knowledge to me, a sinner."

In answer to a request for information concerning working parties, C. L. writes:-"I have a Bible Class of girls between the ages of 14 and 20, who meet once a fortnight at my house for two hours in the evening to work for the Zenana Mission. We do plain and fancy work. I read to them either the Missionary Gleaner,' or 'Female Evangelist.' I have held the working party more than a year, and do not find the interest in it diminish. We began with two girls, and now we have generally a full room."

A. B. writes:-"At our working party, held once a month for two hours, we read first the little Green Book, and then a tale. Then we talk between the readings, and most of the members think the time only too short. One member, when reminded of the day, said, 'She liked it too well ever to forget it.' Once a year, on the last meeting before the Missionary Meeting, we have tea and cake before we separate. I need hardly add that the blessing of our Master is asked on every undertaking."

A. B. also says:-"If the 'Sunday School Teacher' can find any ladies who are known and loved among the poor where she lives to join the working party, she would find it an inducement to girls to come regularly."
