Andrew Lang's famous colored Fairy Books were in fact only part, rather less than half, of a larger series of storybooks for children. Among the unjustly neglected books of the larger series is this collection of poetry for the young.

Children, and some adults, often think that they don't like poetry. Usually this is because they have been reading the wrong kinds, either free verse that has no rhyme or rhythm and isn't fun to read, or else high-flown raptures about nature that use a lot of long words to say nothing at all. Neither of those kinds of bad poetry are in this book.

Here, instead, are stories. Stories about knights and ladies, fairies and ghosts, soldiers and sailors, Greeks and Romans; or else about the seasons and holidays, or cats and dogs, or ordinary people: men and women, boys and girls. Anything, in fact, that a normal story can be about, a poem can be about too. No matter what kind of stories you like, you're sure to find them in The Blue Poetry Book.

Rossignol Books is proud to present lesser-known children's books.
