eat the Flesh of Thy dear SoN JESUS CHRIST, and to drink His Blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by His Body, and our souls washed through His most precious Blood, and that we may evermore dwell in Him, and He in us, Amen.

When the Priest, standing before the Table, hath so ordered the Bread and Wine, that he may with the more readiness and decency break the Bread before the people, and take the Cup into his hands, he shall say the Prayer of Consecration, as followeth.

Almighty GoD, our heavenly FATHER, Who of Thy tender mercy didst give Thine only SON JESUS CHRIST to suffer death upon the Cross for our redemption; Who made there (by His one oblation of Himself once offered) a full, perfect,

Church, in presenting before the FATHER, that Sacrifice, which was offered on the Cross; but before we come to this, we confess how unworthy we are of ourselves, to approach so near to GOD. We have been admitted into the company of Angels and Archangels; but the higher we advance in spiritual things, the more we must feel our own nothingness, in the sight of the ALMIGHTY; yet we have come in obedience to our LORD. We come trusting in His mercy, therefore we are not troubled at the thoughts of what we are in His sight; as it was said be→ fore, we are not to let the thoughts of our unworthiness vex us, or cause us to doubt; but we humbly kneel before GOD and leave ourselves in His hands, praying that the Body and Blood of CHRIST may be effectual in us, to the cleansing and sanctifying our souls and bodies.

And now comes the great Act itself, the Priest has arisen from his knees, and takes his stand before the Altar, to speak the words which JESUS spoke, when He instituted this holy Sacrament; those words at which He becomes present to His people, still under the form of Bread and Wine. Now, think of what you desire your Blessed SAVIOUR to do for you, putting yourself as far as you can, into such a state of mind, as if you were expecting to hear Him say to you as He did to the blind man, "What wilt thou that I should do unto thee ?" (S. Mark x. 51.) As the Priest proceeds with the

and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction, for the sins of the whole world; and did institute, and in His holy Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memory of that His precious death, until His coming again; Hear us, O merciful FATHER, we most humbly beseech Thee; and grant that we receiving these Thy creatures of Bread and Wine, according to Thy SON our SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST'S holy institution, in remembrance of His Death and Passion, may be partakers of His most Blessed Body and Blood: Who, in the same night that He was betrayed, (Here the Priest is to take the Paten into his hands :)

took Bread; and when He had given thanks,

He brake it, and gave it to His disciples, saying, Take eat,

took the Cup; and, when He had given

prayer of Consecration, say to yourself, "I look for the LORD, my soul doth wait for Him, in His word is my trust." "My soul is athirst for GOD; yea, even for the Living GOD; when shall I come to appear, before the presence of GOD." And the Bread is broken! it was thus my SAVIOUR was broken for me; His Body and Soul were broken asunder in death that I might live. And now the words of CHRIST are spoken over the Bread and the Wine, and my SAVIOUR is present; the Body and Blood of CHRIST are there, "verily and indeed" to be "taken and received by the faithful." "LORD, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief."

Bow your head and adore Him.

And as the Consecration is ended, address the SAVIOUR really present before you, and say,

"O Thou Salvation's Sacrifice,

Who openest the gate on high;
Against us hostile wars arise,

Give us Thy strength, Thine aid supply."

And now consider, CHRIST has presented Himself before the FATHER on your behalf; you through Him, have glorified GOD; you through Him, have rendered acceptable thanks to GOD; you through Him have obtained remission of your sins; through Him, your prayers are now heard, and will certainly be answered as it is best for you, (if only you have come here sincerely) you are now looked upon with favour,

1 Then shall the Minister first receive the Communion in both kinds himself, and then proceed to deliver the same to the Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, in like manner, (if any be present,)
