THE TWENTY-THIRD ANNUAL EXHIBITION OF THE NEW YORK STATE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY, HELD AT UTICA.

The Executive Committee of the N. Y. State Agricultural Society, in closing up the labors of the 23d Annual Exhibition of the Society, held at Utica, take great pleasure in acknowledging, in an especial manner, their obligations to John Butterfield, Esq., of Utica, for his unwearied efforts in carrying out all the arrangements of the fair grounds and the erections for the accommodation of the society and exhibitors, in a manner never excelled in the history of the society; which was alike creditable to him, and those associated with him, and for which the Executive Committee desire to unite with the public in the assurance of their entire satisfaction with the arrangments made.

To his Honor, Mayor Wilson, and the Common Council of the city of Utica, the thanks of the Executive Committee are tendered, for the free use of the City Hall for the meetings of the society, and for the hospitable entertainment of the committee and the guests of the society; and, also, for their cordial co-operation with the officers of the society, to make the third fair held in their beautiful city a complete success.

The thanks of the committee are herewith conveyed to the citizens of Utica, for their hospitality and liberal entertainment of the guests of the Society, and the many strangers who honored the society by their attend

ance.

The committee desire to express their obligations to the gentlemen of the press of Utica, for their hearty co-operation through the columns of their journals, and the full and correct account of the progress of the exhibition, as published in their daily issues.

Sheriff Crocker, acting Chief of Police of the fair grounds, and the officers under him, rendered valuable services; and the committee experience pleasure in acknowledging their obligations.

The thanks of the committee, as well as of the many exhibitors of stock, are due to Mr. A. S. Foster, Superintendent of Forage, and Mr. A. Van Vorst, Superintendent of Water, for the promptness with which all demands. on their respective departments were met, and for the perfect system shown. in all their arrangements.

Mr. Charles Butterfield will accept the thanks of the committee for the free use of his grounds for the plowing match.

The interest and energy evinced by the manufacturers and dealers in stoves, machinery, &c., in erecting buildings for their extensive exhibition, was worthy of all praise.

The committee not only, but exhibitors, are deeply indebted to Z. C. Priest, Esq., the indefatigable Superintendent of the Central Railroad in Utica, and to his efficient assistants, for promptly forwarding stock and articles to their various destinations, and exerting themselves in every way to oblige and accommodate the public.

The officers of the different railroad corporations, as usual, manifested their interest in the success of the exhibition, by forwarding articles to and from the fair free of charges; a service most highly appreciated by the society and the exhibitors.
