COUNTY ASSOCIATIONS.

It is very gratifying, that amidst the operations now in progress for the defence of our country, we are enabled to present reports from upwards of forty County Agricultural Societies, and most of these reports are of the most encouraging character.

The farmers of our State are among the bravest defenders of our rights, and are making great sacrifices for the preservation of our country. The returns from their labor upon the farm are upon the whole, most encouraging; and we trust they will reap a rich reward for their labors.

Many of these reports will be found of great interest and value, and will well repay a careful perusal.

ALBANY.

The Albany County Agricultural Society was re-organized in the year 1862, and its first Fair was held at the Washington Parade Ground in September, 1863. The weather was pleasant, and the exhibition was most creditable to the farmers of the county.

The display of horses and cattle was very large, and of a quality that would challenge competition in any county in the State. In the number and quality of working oxen, it is believed that an exhibition has never excelled this; and the increased attention which is now given to the use of oxen upon the farm, will be sustained in this county, and other sections of the State can be supplied. The officers desired to have specimens of their working cattle, worthy of the county, and the result was most gratify ing. Three first rate strings from different towns, of ten pairs and upwards each, presented attractions, which were most carefully examined.

The display of sheep was excellent, both mutton and fine wool varieties, showing the increased attention which is being given to this important class. Some very choice imported stock attracted much attention.

The exhibition of swine was not such as the county should have shown, and it is hoped another year will witness a great improvement in this department. The show of poultry was creditable to the exhibitors.

The exhibition of fruits and flowers was very attractive.

In the manufacturing department the show was not equal to former years, owing, doubtless, in a great measure, to the scarcity of labor. The financial results were very successful; the receipts $4,396.16. Expenditures $4,238.64. Balance $157.52.

The Society had expected from His Excellency Governor Seymour and Hon. Ira Harris that they would be present at the last day of the Fair, and deliver addresses appropriate to the occasion. Public duties prevented their attendance, much to the regret of the speakers and the officers and members of the Society, and the great numbers of people who were in at

tendance.
