The author describes his conversion to Spiritualism after attending a séance, and describes further "circles" and the Spirits who visit them, including those of Sir Humphry Davy, Edgar Allen Poe (who communicates in verse form), Dr. Franklin, Sir Walter Scott, and others, as well as discussions of the nature of the spirit world.
