GLIMPSES OF INNER TRUTH

HANDWRITINGS ON THE WALL. I

IN

N the comments on "Light on the Path" we find the following: "There is a way of reading which is the only one used by many authors. It is reading, not within the lines, but within the words. In fact, it is deciphering a profound cipher. This cipher has been used by the great philosophers and poets of all times. It is used systematically by the Adepts in life and knowledge, who, seemingly giving out their deepest wisdom, hide in the very words the actual mystery."

Bulwer Lytton, an Initiate of at least the lower degrees of the Mysteries, used the cipher in certain of his works; thus in Zanoni, the Initiate's name as given means A-Z in On, that is to say, he is one who has received every Lodge degree in the Temple of On in Heliopolis. Also his name means In Union with love and wisdom. Viola, wife of Zanoni, means Love, while the other Initiate Mejnour, is No mercy for some. In "A Strange Story," Margrave means Proven Evil, while his faithful companion Ayesha is Evil Asia. Coming Race," Vril is Will; A-Vril Vril-ya is Virility, and Ana is AUM.

In "The is Virile;

As a pupil of a Master, Marie Correlli used the Lodge cipher in her occult stories. Thus, in "A Romance of Two Worlds," Casimir Heliobas is Christos Heliopolis whose sister Zara is Mary, once the sister of Lazarus. In "Ardath" that name means Dream, while Mount Kasbek is simply High Mountains. In "The Secret Power," Morgana Royal is AUUM, AUM Born, which means Born with the seven-fold word of wisdom, love, and power. Golden city is Soul Peace, and the Brazen city is Empty, all of sand, while White Eagle means A Mighty Atom. Without further illustrations of the use of the Lodge Cipher by these two, and omitting those of certain others, let us, by the aid of this cipher, first discover the meaning of a few Biblical times, and then find the contents of the years from eighteen hundred and ninety-eight to nineteen hundred and fifty.

Time. It will tie men to evil until they have merit always. Eternity. It is ever silent. Enter in. Mighty temple of ether, it yet invites serenity. Daniel viii, 14. Two thousand and three hundred days. Now Moses and others are to rise, always to stand upon the renewed earth. Daniel xii, 11. A thousand two hundred and ninety days. Then a sign unto Israel, a sign of pity given to a house not worthy unless sin is given over. Daniel xii, 12. The thousand three hundred and thirty days. He shall sound the trump. Rise and live unto Him who orders.

Revelation xx, 2, 3. A thousand years. Almost any year.

The year ninety-eight and eighteen hundred. Thirty years will danger frighten the world; sin bringing little security to any that succumb. They fear many evils attendants of many doings. The year ninety-nine and eighteen hundred. The beginning means weighty things ordered that will eternally lighten every hand that seeks sinfully any height of sure authority. The century imminent is to right every wrong, every misery entire, and brighten future years with plenty measured by true measure.

The year nineteen hundred. Near the end, yet few read what woe, what misery is left. At every mile the Hun is seen. He easily invents excuses when taken in any act unworthy of him. The year one and nineteen hundred. The war of the age will net a republic. Armies over the Rhine now warn Europe. The leader is a man who intends to net heavy spoil easily when time is ready.

The year two and nineteen hundred. The tears of women will not hinder his determined line intent on dread things toward men their kindred. The year three and nineteen hundred. False teachers invent many wonders in the earth below, and the heavens above. They never lead any one into his desire. They fear truth will enlighten certain of their admirers and weaken the rest.

The year twelve and nineteen hundred. The great event is near. The men understand every move in detail. The net is ready. They wait the command intent on obedience. The year

thirteen and nineteen hundred. All in earth sit now quiet at their ease. They care little how near the red Hun. That war between the nations will sunder them is never seen. Titans all have blundered:

The year fourteen and nineteen hundred. A thing unforeseen, damnable, inhuman. Direst deed before men. A sin aimed at Divine Love is here; a foul being damns himself forever. He is to forfeit even name. He is then evicted. Bitter his fortune, mean his life all humiliated. Turkey, henceforth old, infirm, enters into battle with foreign nations to earn fortune in netting the others. Yet afar our end. Nine and ten, then Europe shall know every trial, but never be ruined.

The year fifteen and nineteen hundred. The fearful event invites men inured in strife befitting free men anywhere. The other fighters, in many eastern lands, are yet to affiliate in a divine thing ordered. The year sixteen and nineteen hundred. The sea is infested. Navies meet in dread strife. Hell menaces existence in the red sea. Enemy is sunk in water near shore. The year seventeen and nineteen hundred. Another strength is added. Enemy wonders what reserve waits behind lines,
