of Libra to preserve the balance between these two halves. In this stupendous task it is aided by that spiritual will which Aries-drawing from the inexhaustible Fount above-transmits down the great axis connecting the poles of the Zodiac; in fact every Zodiacal force passes down that spinal cord. Finally, Libra is Meru the Sacred Mountain at the southern pole of the Zodiac, and also at the northern pole of the terrestrial earth, and all other material worlds.

In their secret Zodiac, the Initiates limited the number of signs to ten. Thus these conformed with the perfect kosmic number. To the instructed, Aries was no sign, but rather the bridge between the knowable and the Unknowable. In color, the light blue of Aries approaches the white glory of Amitabha. As for Libra, it also was no sign, but in fact the bridge between the spiritual spheres and their material counterparts. The orange of Libra is deeper than that of Virgo and Scorpio. H. P. B.

SEVEN-FOLD

LIGHT

EVEN-FOLD man is functioning in a sevenfold world, or, to speak precisely, he is living in seven rates of vibration. The senses of any one of his several bodies, according to the plane on which for the time it is active, translate these vibrations into the corresponding components of

the septenary globe. Because of his limitations, a barrier for man exists between the material and the astral plane, and between the astral and the plane next above, and so on even to the seventh plane.

During his normal condition in the physical body, man cognizes no plane above the material. When living on the astral plane, he perceives little or nothing of a higher one until, in no small degree, he is prepared to dwell thereon. The barrier separating the physical and the astral planes is the light blue ray of the physical scale of the sun. This covers the material component of all seven-fold atoms. The covering of the astral component of every atom is the corresponding ray of the astral scale of the sun. This ray separates that component of the atom from the next higher or more interior one, and so on.

The real barrier or partition wall between the physical and the astral, is quite tangible, though very thin.

This light blue, the highest color in the true scale, contacts that which is the lowest of the seven astral colors, to wit, the orange. The light blue of the astral scale contacts the orange of the kamic scale. The light blue of the kamic scale contacts the orange of the kama manasic scale. The light blue of the kama manasic scale contacts the orange of the manasic scale. The light blue of the manasic scale contacts the orange of the buddhic scale.

At meridian the light barrier between the physical and the astral plane is very evident, but at midnight it is thin and much easier to penetrate. For this reason, that hour is most favorable to apparitions. If seen by the physical eye, the light of the astral plane is a very faint red, while that of the other planes is only darkness. The rule works both ways, for the light of the physical world is indeed dim to beings on the astral plane, and absolute darkness to many on higher planes, save at midnight, or under those exceptional conditions which the spiritual medium brings about. To one who has reached the highest divisions of our septenary globe, the six light-barriers are nonexistent. To him all is light, even to the lowest division of the material plane.

WHAT

THE ZODIAC

we shall here teach concerning the Zodiac, was once revealed only to the Epoptai, but it can be given out during the open cycle of seven years which began in 1921. In the chapter: "The Mystery of Color," we said that the Initiates numbered neither Aries nor Libra among the Zodiacal signs. The reason for this omission will now be made plain.

Aries and Libra are well-nigh universal in their

scope, whereas the other ten signs are more or less specialized. Aries is the oldest and most perfect of the Zodiacal star groups. In its highest expres- | 3 the secret and sacret Center. Originally this sign ¿sion it was the first emanation from Parabrahman, 4included Taurus and Pisces, but eventually the two drew away from the other with Taurus positive to Pisces. In its spiritual composition, Capricorn was a second emanation from Parabrahman. Originally it included both Aquarius and Sagittarius. Following the procedure of Taurus and Pisces, these separated from the central sign, with Aquarius positive to Sagittarius. Cancer was the third emanation from the Source, and originally it included Leo and Gemini. As now they stand, Leo is positive to Gemini. Libra was the last to appear, and originally it included Scorpio and Virgo. As separated signs, Scorpio is positive to Virgo.

Aries is the kingly sign, the regent of Parabrahman in the spiritual universe. Hence Aries was deemed sacred and apart from the lesser signs. On the apex of Aries stands that great mountain of more than diamond luster, which is the prototype of Libran Meru. From this majestic height, the "Luminous Suns of Manvanteric Dawn" behold the Unknowable as through a veil. Libra is the regent of Parabrahman in the material universe, and its chief glories are yet to be. Foreseeing this outcome, the Epoptai deemed this sign

second only to Aries, and therefore not to be numbered with the lesser ten.

Because of the foregoing, the student can see that, conforming with the Zodiac, the Universe is divided into four major divisions, and numerous minor subdivisions. Taurus and Pisces preside over the North; Aquarius, Capricorn, and Sagittarius over the East; Leo, Cancer, and Gemini over the West; and Scorpio and Virgo over the South. As already said, Aries rules the spiritual universe, and Libra rules its material counterpart.

All this will be disputed by the modern astrologer who deals largely with externals. It is true that, in their material aspect, the signs correspond with the four material elements. Thus Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are fiery signs. Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn are earthly signs. Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius are airy signs, and Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are watery signs. However, our instruction deals only with the Zodiac as a spiritual emanation from the Absolute.
