There has been an increased demand for accommodation for purchases of rice, shipments of opium, and subscriptions to the reopened 5 per cent. loan. The shares in Bank of Bengal have advanced from 2600 a 2650 last, to 2775 a 2800 this week, the holder holding hard at these figures, till after the dividend.

GOVERNMENT GENERAL ORDER.

PENSION CERTIFICATE.

Fort St. George, Dec. 15, 1846.-It having been brought to the notice of Government, that an undue payment upon a pension certificate has been continued since 1833, from neglect of duty and inattention to special instructions furnished for their guidance, on the part of a succession of triennial committees assembled with reference to G. O. G. No. 195 of 1833, at one of the stations at which pensions are paid, for the purpose of ascertaining the identity of the holders of certificates, and of detecting any abuses of the bounty of Government which may exist, the Governor in Council has been pleased to direct that the amount of such undue payment be recovered from the officers composing the several committees, apportioned from the period of assembly of the one, up to that of the succeeding committee, when the responsibility of the former ceased, and in the proportion of two shares from each of the presidents, and one from each of the members.

2. The Governor in Council has further directed that the sum of Rupees 358 12 0, which the pensioner in the above case, Pensioned Naigue Meer Abdool Khader, late of the 3rd regiment light cavalry, has received as a double pension by having concealed or neglected to report the death of his mother, a pensioned heir (whose pension then reverted to him, and on succeeding to which he ceased to have any claim to the inferior pension on his own account), be now recovered from his stipend.
