OF

PASSAGES OF SCRIPTURE

FOR

CHANTING.

CHANT I.

BLESSED is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners: nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the LORD and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

For he is like a tree planted by the rivers of water: that bringeth forth its fruit in due season.

Whose leaf also withereth not: and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

It is not so with the ungodly: but they are like the chaff, which the wind driveth away.

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment: nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

CHANT II.

LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle: who shall dwell in thy holy

hill?

He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness: and speaketh the truth in his heart.

He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour: nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.

In whose eyes a vile person is contemned: but he honoureth them that fear the Lord.

He that sweareth to his own hurt: and changeth not.

He that putteth not out his money to

usury: nor taketh reward against the innocent.

He that doeth these things: shall never be moved.

CHANT III.

THE earth is the LORD's, and the fulness thereof: the world, and they that

dwell therein.

For he hath founded it upon the seas: and established it upon the floods.

Who shall ascend the mountain of the LORD: and who shall stand in his holy place?

He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart: who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

He shall receive a blessing from the LORD: and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

CHANT IV.

O MAGNIFY the LORD with me: and let us exalt his name together.

I sought the LORD, and he heard me: and delivered me from all my fears.

They looked unto him, and were lightened: their faces were not ashamed.

This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles.

The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him: and delivereth them.

O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

What man is he that desireth life: and loveth many days, that he may see good?

Keep thy tongue from evil: and thy lips from speaking guile.

Depart from evil, and do good: seek peace, and pursue it.

The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous and, his ears are open unto their cry.

CHANT V.

GIVE unto the LORD, O ye mighty : give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

The voice of the LORD is upon the waters the LORD thundereth over the great waters.

The voice of the LORD is powerful: the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.

The voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars: yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of Lebanon:

The voice of the LORD divideth the flames of fire: the voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness:

The voice of the LORD shaketh the oaks, and maketh bare the forests: and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory.

The LORD sitteth above the storm: the LORD sitteth king for ever.

May the LORD give strength unto his people may the LORD give his people the blessing of peace!
