46. For ye love m love you, have ye? Do not even the Publicans the same ? 47. And if ye falute your Brethren only, what do you more than others? Do not even the Publicans (t) fo? (t) Rom. xii. 10. Be kindly AFFECTIONED one to another: with brotherly Love, in Honour preferring one another. 14. BLESS them which perfecute you: BLESS, and curse not. 16. Be of the same Mind one towards another. 17. Recompence to no Man Evil for Evil. Provide Things honest in the Sight of all Men. 18. If it be poffible, as much as lieth in you, live PEACEABLY with all Men. 19. Avenge not your selves, but rather give place unto Wrath; for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, faith the Lord. 20. Therefore if thine ENEMY hunger, feed him; if he thirit, give him drink: for in so doing, thou shalt heap Coals of Fire on his Head. 21. Be not overcome of EVIL, but overcome Evil with GOOD. 1 Cor. xiii. 4. Charity fuffereth long, and is kind; Charity envieth not; Charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5. Doth not behave itself unfeemly, seeketh not her own, is not eafily provoked, thinketh no EVIL, 6. Rejoiceth not in Iniquity, but rejoiceth in the Truth: 7. BEARETH all Things, believeth all Things, hopeth all Things, endureth all Things. Gal. v. 19. Now the Works of the FLESH are manifeft, which are these, Adultery, Fornication, Uncleanness, Lafciviousness, 20. Idolatry, Witchcraft, Hatred, Variance, Emulations, Wrath, Strife, Seditions, Herefies, 21. Envw 21. Envyings, Murders, Drunkenness, Revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time paft, that they which do such Things, shall not inherit the KINGDOM of GOD. 22. But the FRUIT of the SPIRIT is Love, Joy, Peace, Longfuffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, 23. Meekness, Temperance: Against such there is no Law. 1 Theff. v. 14. Now we exhort you, Brethren, warn them that are UNRULY, comfort the FEEBLE-MINDED, support the WEAK, be PATIENT toward ALL Men. 15. See that none RENDER EVIL for EVIL unto any Man: but ever follow that which is good, both among your selves and to all Men. 1 Pet. iii. 8. Finally, be ye all of one Mind, having Compaffion one of another, love as Brethren, be PITIFUL, be coURTE OUS: 9. Not rendring EVIL for EVIL, or Railing for Railing: but contrariwife, BLESSING. 48. Be (u) ye therefore PERFECT, even as your Father which is in Heaven is PERFECT. (u) Pfalm xxxvii. 37. Mark the PERFECT Man, and behold the UPRIGHT: for the End of that Man is PEACE. 2 Cor. vii. 1. Having therefore these Promises (dearly beloved) let us cleanse our selves from all filthiness of the Flesh and Spirit, perfecting HOLINES'S in the Fear of God. Col. i. 27. To whom God would make known what is the Riches of the Glory of this Mystery among the Gentiles; which is Cbrift in you, the Hope of Glory; 28. Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily. 2 Tim. iii. 16. All Scripture is given by INSPIRATION of God, and is profitable for Doctrine, for Reproof, for Correction, for Instruction in Righteousness : 17. That the Man of God may be PERFECT, throughly furnished unto all good Works. James i. 17. Every Good GIFT, and every PERFECT GIFT is from above, and cometh down from the Father of Lights, with whom is no Variableness, neither Shadow of turning. Of ALMS. Matt. TAKE (w) heed that you do not your ALMS vi. I. before Men, to be seen of them : otherwise ye have no Reward of your Father which is in Heaven. 2. Therefore when thou dost thine ALMS, do not found a Trumpet before thee, as the HYPOCRITES do, in the Synagogues and in the Streets, that they may have GLORY of Men. Verily I say unto you, they have their Reward. 3. But thou, when thou dost ALMS, let not thy left Hand know what thy right Hand doth. 4. That thine ALMS may be in secret: and thy Father which feeth in secret, himself shall reward thee openly. (w) Prov. xxi. 2. Every Way of a Man is right in his own Eyes: but the Lord PONDERETH the HEARTS. Chap. xxviii. 27. He that GIVETH unto the Poor, shall not lack. Job xxxi. 16. If I have withheld the Poor from their DESIRE, or have caused the Eyes of the WIDOW to fail : 17. Or have eaten my Morsel my self alone, and the Fatherless hath not eaten thereof: 19. If I have seen any perish for want of CLOATHING, or any Poor without Covering: 20. If his Loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the Fleece of my Sheep; 22. Then let mine Arm fall from my Shoulder-blade, and mine Arm be broken from the Bone. Pfalm xxxvii. 21. The Wicked borroweth, and payeth not again : but the RIGHTEOUS sheweth MERCY, and GIVETH. 26. He is ever MERCIFUL, and LENDETH: and his Seed is bleffed. P. xli. 1. BLESSED is he that confidereth the Poor; the Lord will deliver him in Time of Trouble. Prov. xiv. 21. He that hath MERCY on the Poor, happy is he. 31. He that oppresseth the Poor, reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him, hath MERCY on the Poor. Chap. xix. 17. He that hath PITY upon the Poor, lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given, he will pay him again. Luke xviii. 22. Sell all that thou hast, and DISTRIBUTE to the POOR, and thou shalt have TREASURE in Heaven. Ads xx. 35. Whoso hath this World's Good, and seeth his Brother have NEED, and shutteth up his Bowels of COMPASSION from him, how dwelleth the Love of God in him? ***** .*****.********** Of PRAYER. Ver. 5. AND when thou PRAVEST, thou shalt not be as standing in the Synagogues, and in the Corner of the Streets, that they may be SEEN OF Men. Verily I say unto you, they have their Reward. HYPOCRITES are: for they love to PRAY 6. But thou when thou PRAYEST, enter into thy Closet, and when thou hast shut thy Door, PRAY to thy FATHER which is in secret, and thy Father which feeth in secret, shall REWARD thee openly. 7. But when ye PRAY, use not VAIN REPETITIONS, as the Heathen do: for they think they shall be HEARD for their much SPEAKING. 8. Be not ye therefore like unto them; for your FATHER knoweth what Things ye have NEED of before ye ask him. 9. After * this manner therefore PRAY ye: Our Father, which art in Heaven, hallowed be thy Name. 10. Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. 11. Give us this Day our daily Bread. 12. And See of PRAYER in general, its Neceffity, Efficacy, and Use, 12. And forgive us our Debts, as we forgive our Debters. 13. And lead us not into Temptation, but deliver us from Evil: for thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, for ever. Amen. in the Harmony of the PSALMS, pag. lxiii. 14. For, (x) if ye FORGIVE Men their TRESPASSES, your heavenly Father will also FORGIVE yours. 15. But if ye FORGIVE not Men their TRESPASSES, neither will your Father Forgive your Trespasses. (x) Ephef. iv. 31. Let all BITTERNESS, and WRATH, and ANGER, and CLAMOUR, and EVIL-SPEAKING be put away from you, with all MALICE. 32. And be ye KIND one to another, TENDER-HEARTED, FORGIVING one another, even as God for Christ's fake hath FORGIVEN you. Col. iii. 12. Put on therefore (as the Elect of God, holy and beloved) Bowels of MERCIES, Kindness, humbleness of Mind, Meekness, Long-suffering; 13. Forbearing one another, and FORGIVING one another, if any Man have a Quarrel against any: even as Christ FORGAVE you, so also do ye. 14. And above all these Things put on CHARITY, which is the Bond of PERFECTNESS. Ver. 16.M Of FASTING. Oreover, (y) when ye FAST, be not as the Hypocrites, of a fad Countenance : for they diffigure their Faces, that they may appear unto Men to FAST. Verily I fay unto you, they have their Reward. 17. But thou, when thou FASTEST, anoint thine Head, and wash thy Face. 18. That thou appear not unto Men to FAST, but unto thy Father which is in fecret: and thy Father which feeth in secret, shall reward thee openly. (y) Ifai. lviii. 4. Behold, ye FAST for Strife and Debate, and to smite with the Fift of Wickedness; ye shall not FAST as ye do this Day, to make your Voice to be heard on high. 5. Is it such a FAST that I have chosen? a Day for a Man to AFFLICT his Soul? Is it to bow down his Head as a Bullrush, and |
