29. Abraham faith unto him, They have Moses and the PROPHETS; let them hear them. 30. And he said, Nay, Father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the Dead, they will repent. 31. And he said unto him, If they hear not Mofes and the PROPHETS, neither will they be perswaded, though one rose from the DEAD. *** Of the Unjust Judge. Luke AND he spake a Parable unto them, to this end, xviii. 1. that Men ought ALWAYS to PRAY, and not to FAINT; 2. Saying, There was in a City a Judge, which feared not God, neither regarded Man. 3. And there was a Widow in that City, and she came unto him, faying, Avenge me of mine Adversary. 4. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard Man; 5. Yet because this Widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, left by her continual coming the weary me. 6. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust Judge faith. 7. And shall not God avenge his own Elect, which cry Day and Night unto him, though he bear long with them? 8. I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man cometh, shall he find Faith on the Earth? **************** ****** Of the Pharifee and Publican. Ver. 9. AND he spake this Parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were RIGHTE ous, and despised others : 10. Two Men went up into the Temple to PRAY; the one a Pharifee, and the other a Publican. 11. The Pharifee stood and prayed thus with himself, 2 himfelf God, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other Men are, Extortioners, Unjust, Adulterers, or even as this Publican. 12. I fast twice in the Week, I give Tithes of all that 1 poffefs. 13. And the Publican standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his Eyes unto Heaven, but smote upon his Breaft, faying, God be merciful to me a Sinner. 14. I tell you this Man went down to his House, juftified rather than the other: for every one that EXALTETH himself, shall be ABASED; and he that HUMBLETH him. felf, shall be exalted. ************ Luke ND ******** Of the Ten Pieces. A as they heard these Things, he added, and xix. 11. spake a Parable, because he was nigh to Ferufalem, and because they thought that the Kingdom of God should immediately appear. 12. He faid therefore, A certain Nobleman went into a far Country, to receive for himself a Kingdom, and to re turn. 13. And he called his ten Servants, and delivered them ten Pounds, and faid unto them, Occupy till I come. 14. But his Citizens hated him, and fent a Message after him, faying, We will not have this Man to reign over Well, thou good Servant: Ecclef. xi. 9. Rejoice, O young Man, in thy Youth, and let thy Heart chear thee in the Days of thy Youth, and walk in the Ways of thy Heart, and in the Sight of thine Eyes: but know thou, that for ail because thefe because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou Authority over ten Cities. 18. And the second came, faying, Lord, thy Pound hath gained five Pounds. 19. And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five Cities. 20. And another came, faying, Lord, behold, here is thy Pound, which I have kept laid up in a Napkin: 21. For I feared thee, because thou art an auftere Man: thou takest up that thou laidit not down, and reapest that thou didst not fow. 22. And he faith unto him, Out of thine own Mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked Servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere Man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not fow : 23. Wherefore then gavest not thou my Money into the Bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with Ufury ? 24. And he faid unto them that fłood by, Take from him the Pound, and give it to him that hath ten Pounds. 25. (And they faid unto him, Lord, he hath ten Pounds) 26. For 1 fay unto you, That unto every one which these Things God will bring thee into JUDGMENT. Chap. xii. 14. For God shall bring every Work into JUDGMENT, with every fecret Thing, whether it be Good, or whether it be EVIL. Jer. xxxii. 19. Great in Counsel, and mighty in Work, (for thine Eyes are open upon all the Ways of the Sons of Men, to give every one according to his Ways, and according to the FRUIT of his DoINGS.) Chap. xvii. 10. I the Lord search the Heart, I try the Reins, even to give every Man according to his Ways, and according to the Fruit of his Doings. Rom. xiv. 7. For none of us liv eth to himself, and no Man dieth to himself. 8. For whether we live, we live the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: Whe ther we LIVE therefore or DIE, we are the Lord's. 9. For to this End Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the Dead and of the Living. 11. For it is written, As I live, faith the Lord, every Knee shall bow to me, and every Tonguc shall confefs to God. 12. So then every one of us shall give ACCOUNT of himself to God. 2 Cor. v. 10. For we must all appear before the Judgment feat of Chrift, that every one may receive the Things done in his Body, асcording to that he has done, whether it be GOOD or BAD. 1 Pet. i. 17. And if we call on the Father, who without refpect of Persons JUDGETH according to every Man's Work, pass the Time of your fojourning here in fear. Chap. iv. 5. Who shall GIVE ACCOUNT to him that is ready to judge the Quick and the Dead. hath, shall be given: and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him. 27. But those mine Enemies which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and flay them before me. Z2 Of Of the Labourers in the Vineyard. Matt. FOR the Kingdom of Heaven, is like unto a Man xx. I. that is an Housholder, which went out early in the Morning to hire Labourers into his Vineyard. 2. And when he had agreed with the Labourers for a Peny a Day, he fent them into his Vineyard. 3. And he went out about the third Hour, and faw others standing idle in the Market-place, 4. And faid unto them, Go ye also into the Vineyard, and whatsoever is right, I will give you. And they went their way. 5. Again he went out about the sixth and ninth Hour, and did likewife. 6. And about the eleventh Hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and faith unto them, Why stand ye here all the Day idle ? 7. They say unto him, Because no Man hath hired us. He faith unto them, Go ye also into the Vineyard, and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive. 8. So when Even was come, the Lord of the Vineyard faith unto his Steward, Call the Labourers, and give them their Hire, beginning from the last unto the first. 9. And when they came that were hired about the eleventh Hour, they received every Man a Peny. 10. But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more, and they likewise received every Man a Peny. 11. And when they had received it, they murmured against the good Man of the House, 12. Saying, These last have wrought but one Hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have born the Burden and Heat of the Day. 13. But he answered one of them, and faid, Friend, I do thee no wrong: Didit not thou agree with me for a Peny? 14. Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this laft, even as unto thee. 15. Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine Eye evil, because I am good? 16. So the last shall be first, and the first last : for ma ny be called, but few chofen. Of Of the two Sons that were commanded to go into the Vineyard. Matt. BUT what think you? A certain Man had two xxi. 28. Sons, and he came to the first, and faid, Son, go work to-day in my Vineyard. 29. He answered and faid, I will not: but afterward he repented and went. 30. And he came to the second, and said likewife. And he answered and faid, I go, Sir; and went not. 31. Whether of them twain did the Will of his Father ? They say unto him, The first. Jesus faith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the Publicans and the Harlots go into the Kingdom of God before you. 32. For John came unto you in the way of Righteoufness, and ye believed him not: but the Publicans and the Harlots believed him. And ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him. Of the Vineyard let out to Husbandmen. Ver. 33. HEAR another This Parable relates Parable: There was a certain Housholder which planted a (a) Vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a Wine-press in it, and built a Tower, and let it out to Husbandmen, and went into a far Country. to the Rejection of the Jews (a) Ifai. N 34. And when the Time of the Fruit drew near, he fent his Servants to the Hufbandmen, that they might receive the Fruits of it. 35. And the Husbandmen took his Servants, and beat one, a Vineyard in a very fruitful Hill. 2. And he fenced it, and gathered out the Stones thereof, and planted it with the CHOICEST VINE, and built a Tower in the midst of it, and also made a Wine-press therein: and he looked that it should bring forth Grapes, and it brought forth WILD Grapes. |
