RESOLUTIONS INTENDED TO BE PROPOSED BY Mr. GUEST, On THURSDAY, the 13th day of MARCH 1834. 1st.-THAT upon the next appointment of a Speaker the Salary of £.6,000 now paid, be reduced to £. 5,000, with the Official Residence free of Taxes, without any other allowance except the sum of £. 1,000 by way of outfit, upon his first Election only. 2d.-THAT all Fees payable to The Speaker's Secretary be carried to the Fee Fund, and that a Salary of £.500 per annum be paid to him for the performance of all the duties now belonging to his office of Secretary to The Speaker, and of the Commissioners of the Fee Fund, without an Official Residence, or any allowance in lieu thereof. 3d.-THAT the Salaries now paid to the Clerks of the House of Commons, viz. £.3,500 per annum, and an Official Residence. To the Clerk, £.2,500 per annum, and an Official House. 1 Second Clerk Assistant, £. 1,000 per annum, and no Residence. 4th.-THAT the Salaries now paid to the Serjeant and Deputy Serjeant of Arms, viz. The Serjeant £.2,000 per annum, and an allowance of £.300 for a House; The Deputy Serjeant £. 800 per annum, and £.200 for a House; be reduced on the occasion of each future vacancy The Serjeant £. 1,500 per annum, without any other Allowance. The Deputy Serjeant £.700 per annum, without any other Allowance. 5th.-THAT the following offices Four Committee Clerks, whose emoluments in 1832 amounted to ditto ditto £.3,372 14 4 being Sinecure Offices, be abolished, making such compensation to the present holders of these offices as may be consistent with the circumstances of each individual case. 6th.-IT appearing by the Report of a Committee of this House, that a practice prevails in the offices of the Committee and Ingrossing Clerks, as well as the Department of the Serjeant at Arms, of charging Gratuities, in addition to the Fees prescribed by the Table of Fees, and of receiving presents,-" Resolved, That such practice be hereafter strictly prohibited." 7th.-THAT no Officer of this House be allowed to dispose, for his own benefit, of any Papers printed at the Public Expense, and that no Papers printed by the Orders of the House should be allowed to be delivered to any Clerks or Officers of the House, except such as may be necessary for their official use. 8th.-THAT the Salary of Clerk of the Journals which, with allowances, amounted in the year 1832 to £. 1,662. 6. 4. be, on the first vacancy, reduced to £.1,000, without any other allowances. 9th. THAT it is expedient to revise the Fees now payable, and to adopt a more certain, simple and less complicated mode of charge on Bills passing through Parliament. 0.19. + RETURN to an Order of The Honourable House of Commons, dated 6 March 1834;-for, A RETURN of the Number of DAYS on which The HOUSE of COMMONS sat in the last Session of Parliament, with the Total Number of HOURS occupied in the Morning and Evening Sittings of The House respectively. From 29th January to 26th February, being 4 Weeks, the House sat 34 Hours per Week. |
