The cows are to come in soon,
and need more care. Feed light-
ly two or three weeks before the
time comes, and give them a
warm pen where there are no
cold drafts. The best cows are
most apt to have trouble with
the bag at this feverish time,
and some farmers wash it in cold
water, and keep the calf on to
bunt it down as they say. This
is all wrong. If the bag is swol-
len, sore, and inflamed, bathe it
suds, rubbing it long and gently,
every two hours in hot soap-
and drying it with woollen rags
each time. Never touch cold
water to a caked udder; you run
Hot soap-suds well followed up,
the risk of loss of the glands.
and patient rubbing, will soon
bring it all right. Feed no meal
or feverish food for a week or

meal stirred in, may be given
warm water, with a pint of rye
three or four times a day.
