THE round of chores must be

kept up, for the stock will need more care than you gave it the last two months, and the cows will soon come in, and need a sharp eye, not to speak of the lambs and the pigs, and the hens to set for a lot of early chickens. Some time may be left for the woodpile. It won't pay to leave off work in May, to run and haul up wood to make the pot boil; and no good farmer will let such jobs go to the last minute. I hope there are a few roots left for the cows. They help out a winter's stock of hay very much, if they have been well kept, and now they come in first-rate by way of change. A lot of parsnips, grown last year and left in the ground over winter, may be dug up day by day and fed to cows and sheep. They make good milk and a lot of it.
