Fill the ice-house the first chance you can get. To wait a day or two will now and then cause the loss of the ice crop. See that the horse is shod with sharp, short calks. Cows and young stock ought to be kept in fine thrift all through these cold months, and they are kept at a loss if they merely hold their own from fall to spring. The pig does n't like filth any better than any body else; give him a clean warm bed if you want him to thrive. It takes a good deal of corn meal to offset the cold, chilly air sifting in through the cracks, and you can't lay on fat in a cold pen.
