TO PATRONS AND CORRESPONDENTS.

We have again the pleasure of offering to you a new "Old Farmer's " Almanack, and of wishing you heartily a happy and prosperous New Year.

Seed-time and harvest once more have fulfilled their annual round, and our country is again blessed with abundant crops.

The Almanack, this year, is computed in standard time, sixteen minutes behind Boston local time. As this change has been generally adopted, it seemed necessary to introduce it in the Almanack. See note below.

Thanking our friends and correspondents for their favors, we close in the words of the founder of this

Almanack:

"It is by our works and not by our words we would be judged these we hope will sustain us in the humble though proud station we have so long held. . . .

Foto: D. Phomas.""

NOTE ON STANDARD TIME.

In former editions of this almanack the quantities have been expressed in local time. In the present edition, however, they are given in standard time as now in use. The calculations are for the longitude and latitude of Boston, and for general purposes are sufficiently correct for most parts of New England. If, however, greater accuracy is desired, this can be obtained for places using standard time by applying a correction to the almanack times from the table below. This table contains corrections for the principal cities of the New England states, and any other place in New England can use the correction of the place in the table which is nearest in longitude to itself. For places still using the old local time, sixteen minutes should invariably be added to the almanack times.
