We must dig potatoes, get in and husk the corn, pick the fruit, and fly round till the work is done. Here and there a good crop of grass can be cut. Rowen is good for calves and lambs, and for cows in milk. We like to have a lot of it on hand, it is so sweet and full of juice. Keep the plough in the furrow as much as you can. The more we can plough in the fall the less will the work press in the spring, and the team is strong now to do the work well. It is a great help to break up the sod in the fall, for we shall have both hands full in May. It is safe to pull the mangolds at the end of the month. They will not stand a very hard frost. Top them and stack them in close piles on the field, so that they can be covered as the cold nights come on. If they are stored in the cellar now, where the air is close, they will be apt to heat and sweat, and that may hurt them. The for a few days more, and the swede will keep on its growth frost will not touch that just yet. If the canker worm has reached your trees, tar the trunks about the middle of the month. Good printers' ink is better than tar, and if it is too thick, mix in some crude rock oil. All the Changes we jume come 10. was vida.
