THERE are many books published under the name of Family Prayers: the justification, therefore, of printing another work with the same object must be a presumed deficiency in those already existing for fully answering the purpose intended, and the implied inadequacy of all that have preceded it. This will best appear from a brief statement of the principles upon which Family Prayer ought to be conducted, as contrasted with Private Prayer, and Public Prayer; and the reader will be thereby enabled to judge whether any of the formularies in his possession realize the necessary requirements.
