SCOTLAND is ecclesiastically divided into
84 Presbyteries, composed of the Ministers
of a certain number of adjacent parishes,
and of an Elder to represent each Kirk
Session, a body composed of the Minister
and Lay Elders of each parish, and into 16
Synods, composed each of the Members
of so many Presbyteries as are within
the bounds of the Synod. The Court
of Ultimate Resort, which presides over
and governs the Church is its General
Assembly, composed of Representatives,
