Their durability and strength-permanent contractability and uniformity of substance their non-susceptibility of injury from contact with oils, grease, acids, alkalies, or water-and the facility with which the only joint required can be made in bands of from 200 to 300 feet long-render them superior to leather for almost all working purposes, and decidedly more economical.

TESTIMONIALS.

IMPORTANT ANNUAL SAVING. From TRUMAN, HANBURY, BUXTON, & Co., Brewery

[graphic]

London.

"In reply to your inquiry, we have much pleasure in bearing our testimony to the advantages, both as regards economy and saving of time, effected by the use of your Patent Gutta Percha Bands in lieu of Leather Straps. The stoppage of one portion of our works through the failing of the leather strap used to be of daily occurrence-but with this annoyance we are now never troubled. We have had these straps in operation for nearly three years, and are assured by our Engineer that they effect a saving to us of at least THIRTY POUNDS a year."

From JAMES ABERNETHY & Co., Fury Hill Foundry Aberdeen.

"We have now had Gutta Percha Bands working here for three years. One of them has been driving the fan blast for our smith's shop for all that time, and for anything we see, may drive it as long again. The speed of the fan is but 1,200 per minute. We have used them with complete satisfaction, driving circular saws, and in some cases where leather bands would have been quite inapplicable from damp. We have uniformly endeavoured to have the drums and pulleys so proportioned to the strain, as that there is no chance of the band slipping; and with this precaution, and taking care in using cross bands that they do not rub, we are quite satisfied that they are superior in every respect to leather-stronger at the same weight, and keeping quite straight in working-requiring no lacings, and very seldom any repairs."

The above engraving represents accurately a section of a leaden pipe, which was employed for a short time in conveying water from a well on the grounds of Mr. Dick, of Bonchurch, Isle of Wight.

POISONED WATER PREVENTABLE

BY THE USE OF GUTTA PERCHA TUBING. The Gutta Percha Company have been favoured with the following letter,

From Dr. MURRAY, Hull.

"It is impossible to conceive of anything more injurious or destructive to the health of the community than the use of leaden pipes for the conveyance of water. The poisonous salts of lead thereby communicated are most insidious and subtle. I hail with gratitude the substitution of Gutta Percha Tubing. I have had the leaden pipe of my own house removed, and its place supplied with one of Gutta Percha Tubing. Nothing can be better. I have also recom mended it to others, who have adopted the expedient."

A variety of Gutta Percha Articles, such as Mill Bands, Tubing, Sheet, Soles, Pump Buckets, Bosses, Union Joints, Bottles, Bowls, Flasks, Curtain and Cornice Rings, Solid Frames, Ga? vanic Batteries, &c., &c.
