THE
HE gratifying success which attended this Work in its original form has

induced the Publishers to issue it in an Illustrated Serial Edition. For this purpose the entire biography has been carefully revised, and very greatly enlarged, and chapters have been added at the close in connection with Mr. Gladstone's campaign in Midlothian, the General Election of 1880, and other matters, which bring the work down to the present date. In this Illustrated Edition of the Life of Mr. Gladstone, consequently, the reader is presented with a full pictorial and historical record of English politics during the last fifty years.
