7. For God's gracious owning of him in his undertaking, and in the carrying of it on,

We bless thee that thou was in Chrift, reconciling the world to thyfelf, not imputing their trefpaffes unto them, and that thou haft committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

That thou haft thyfelf given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people. That he was sanctified and fealed, and fent into the world, and that the Father, which fent him, did not leave him alone, for he always did those things that pleafed him.

Glory be to God in the higheft, for in and through Jefus Chrift there is on earth peace, and good-will towards men.

In this was manifefted the love of God towards us, because that God fent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him..

We thank thee for the power thou haft given him over all flesh, that he fhould give eternal life to as many as were given him.

8. For his holy life, his excellent doctrine, and the glorious miracles he wrought to confirm his doc

trine.

We blefs.thee for the affurance we have that he is a teacher come from God, fince no man could do those miracles which he did, except God were with him.

That thou haft in thefe laft days fpoken unto us by thy fon, whofe doctrine was not his, but his that fent him, and he fpake as one having authority, and that we are encouraged to come and learn of him, because he is meek and lowly in heart, and in learning of him we fhall find reft to our fouls.

We blefs thee that he hath left us an example, that we fhould follow his steps, in that he did no fin, neither was guile found in his mouth, and when he was reviled, he reviled not again; and his meat and drink was to do the will of his father; in that he was holy

harmless, undefiled, feparated from finners.

O that we may be armed with the fame mind, and that aș he was, so we may be in this world; and that we may fo walk, even as he walked.

We bless thee that the works which he did, the same bore witnefs of him, that the Father had fent him, that by his power the blind received their fight, the lame walked, the lepers cleanfed, the deaf heard, the dead were raised up, and the poor had the gospel preached to them; and even the winds and the fea obeyed him, for which we glorify the God of Ifrael. Doubtlefs this was the Son of God.

9. For the great encouragements Chrift gave to poor finners to come to him.

We bless thee that Jefus Chrift came to call not the righteous, but finners (fuch as we are) to repentance, and had power on earth to forgive fin: that he came to fave his people from their fins; and is the Lamb of God that takes away the fin of this world, and that he is (to his honour, not to his reproach) a friend to publicans and finners.

We thank thee for the gracious invitation he gave to those who are weary and heavy laden to come to him for reft; And for the affurance he hath given, that whosoever comes unto him, he will in no wise caft him out.

That he made a gracious offer, that whofoever thirsts might come unto him and drink.

10. For the full fatisfaction which he made to the juftice of God for the fin of man, by the blood of his erofs, for the purchases, victories, and triumphs of the cross, and for all the precious benefits which flow to us from the dying of our Lord Jefus.

Herein, indeed, God commandeth his love to us, in that while we are yet finners, Chrift died for us, that we might be reconciled to him by the death of his Son, Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and fent his Son to be the propitiation for our fins, and not for ours only, but for the fins of the

whole world; that he tafted death for every man, that through death he might deftroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.

We blefs thee, that by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are fanctified, that he hath finished tranfgreffion, made an end of fin, made reconciliation for iniquity, and hath brought in an everlafting righteousness.

That he hath redeemed us from the curfe of the law, by being made a curfe for us.

That what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God hath done by fending his own Son in the likeness of finful flesh, who by a facrifice for fin condemned fin in the flesh.

That he was wounded for our tranfgreffions, and bruised for our iniquities, and that the chaftifement of our peace was upon him, and by his ftripes we are healed; and that the Lord having laid upon him the iniquity of us all, it pleased the Lord to bruise him, and to put him to grief.

That appearing to put away fin by the facrifice of himfelf, he did by the eternal fpirit offer himself, without fpot, unto God, and by his own blood entered once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

That he hath spoiled principalites and powers, and made a fhew of them openly, triumphing over them in his cross, and hath blotted out the hand-writting of ordinances which was against us, which was contrary to us, taking it out of the way, by nailing it to the cross.

That he is our peace, who having broken down the middle wall of partition between Jew and Gentile, hath made himself of twain one new man, hath reconciled both unto God, in one body, by the crofs, having flain the enmity thereby.

That he hath loved us, and washed us from our fins in our own blood, and hath made us unto our God kings and priests.

O the height, and depth, and length, and breadth of that love of Chrift which paffeth knowledge! That great love wherewith he loved us!

Worthy is the lamb that was flain to receive power, and riches, and wifdom, and ftrength, and honour, and glory, and bleffing; for he was flain, and hath redeemed us to God by his blood.

11. For his refurrection from the dead on the third day.

We thank thee, that as he was delivered for our offences, fo he rofe again for our juftification, and was declared to be the Son of God, with power, by the refurrection from the dead.

That though be was dead, yet he is alive, and lives for evermore, and hath the keys of hell and death, and being raised from the dead, he dies no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

That now is Chrift risen from the dead, and is become the first fruits of them that flept, that as in Adam all died, so in Chrift all might be made alive, and every one in his own order.

That God fuffered not his Holy One to fee corruption, but loofed the pains of death, because it was impoffible he fhould be holden of them, and fo declared to all the house of Ifrael that that fame Jesus whom they crucified is both Lord and Christ.

And that for this end Christ both died and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and the living, and that whether we wake or fleep, we might live together with him.

12. For his afcenfion into heaven, and his fitting at God's right hand there.

We bless thee that our Lord Jefus is afcended to his father and our father, to his God and our God; is afcended up on high, having led captivity captive, and hath received gifts for men, yea, even for the rebellious alfo, that the Lord God might dwell among them.

That as the forerunner he is for us entered, enter

ed into heaven itself, now to appear in the prefence of God for us, a lamb, as it had been flain, ftanding in the midst of the throne.

That he is fet on the right hand of the throne of the majefly in the heavens, angels, and authorities, and powers being made fubject to him.

That he is gone before to prepare a place for us in his father's houfe, where there are many manfions; and though whether he is gone we cannot follow him now, yet we hope to follow him hereafter, when he fhall come again to receive us to himself, that where he is, there we may be alfo.

13. For the interceffion which he ever lives to make in the virtue of his fatisfaction.

We thank thee, that having born the fins of many, he makes interceflion for tranfgreffors; and prays not for thofe only that were given him when he was upon earth, but for all that thall believe on him through their word; that they all may be one.

That we have an advocate with the Father, even Jefus Chrift the righteous, who is therefore able to fave to the uttermost all thofe that come to God, as a father, by him, as mediator, feeing he ever lives making interceffion.

That we have a High-priest taken from among men, and ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and facrifice for fin, who can have compaffion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way, and that he is become the author of eternal falvation to all them that obey him.

14. For the dominion and fovereignty to which the redeemer is exalted.

We thank thee that because our Lord Jefus humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the crofs, therefore God hath highly exalted him, and given him a name above every name, that at the name of Jefus every knee might bow, and every tongue confefs (as we do at this time) that Jefus Chrift is Lord, to the glory of God the father,
