AND OTHER CORRESPONDENTS.-Sir Bernard Burke has settled the question as to the date of the birth of the first Duke of Wellington, in the recently published book by Ulster King of Arms-The Rise of Great Families. Sir Bernard quotes Exshaw's (Dublin) Magazine for May; 1769, "April 29, the Countess of Mornington, of a son.' The parish Register of St. Peter's, Dublin, contains the entry of Arthur Wellesley's baptism, Sunday, 30th of April, 1769. It is authenticated by Archdeacon Manns. On the same day, the apothecary in Dawson Street supplied the medicines, the record of which in his day book is shown at the Dublin Exhibition. Sir Bernard further proves that Arthur Duke of Wellington was born at No. 24, Upper Merrion Street, Dublin; now the office of the Commissioners of Church Temporalities. H. T. E. This preservative power is admirably displayed by proper doses of Holloway's Pills, which relieve the liver, kidneys, and bowels from undue congestion by immediately augmenting their secretions, and by converting through those natural channels any surplus quantity of blood from a situation where its continued presence must be mischievous even if it fall short of creating actual disease. 473, Oxford Street (entrance in Berwick Street), London, want: SHERRIES (AGREDA'S).—24s., 30s., and 36s. per G 1841. The Arundel Society has brought out for separate sale the following new Chromolithographs. Proofs may be inspected at the Office : THE CAVALLI MONUMENT, with its adjoining Frescoes. From the Church of Sta. Anastasia at Verona A Chromolithograph by Messrs. STORCH & KRAMAR, of Berlin. With a Descriptive Notice by JOHN RUSKIN, Esq. Price to Members, 1l. 48.; Strangers, 11. 108. IN a Report of the Council issued in 1867, attention was called to a class of monuments of much interest, both artistic and historical, which several reasons render at present peculiarly worthy of study. The recent revival of Gothic architecture seems to be eliciting a demand for cenotaphs and tombs, in which architecture is combined with other decorative arts, not always very tastefully applied. It has therefore been thought that advantage might accrue to the artist, no less than pleasure to the general public, from the publication of some of those beautiful and characteristic memorials of the dead, which were erected in Italy during the Middle Ages and the period of Renaissance. With this view Professor Gnauth, an architect from Stuttgard, was sent by the Council to Venetia, to make drawings from a few of such monuments as seemed suitable for illustration. Seven subjects were selected, two from the Church of SS. Giovanni e Paolo at Venice, and five from churches and other localities at Verona. One of these, the Cavalli Monument, has now been chosen as a specimen. Mr. Ruskin has kindly undertaken to write, specially for the Society, a Descriptive Account of the monument and its adjoining frescoes, which will, it is believed, greatly increase the interest of the publication. By MELOZZO DA FORLI. From the Sacristy of St. Peter's at Rome. Two Chromolithographs by Messrs. PITT & CO. of Berlin. Price, the pair, to Members, 17. 48.; Strangers, 1l. 108. In 1472. Melozza Da Forli was employed by Cardinal Riaro, nephew of Pope Sixtus IV., to decorate in fresco the tribune of the Church of SS Apostoli at Rome. He represented with bold perspective, in the semi-dome, the Ascension of Our Lord among Cherubs, with the Apostles looking up, and Angels variously foreshortened attending or playing different musical instruments. The tribune was taken down and rebuilt in 1711, when the figure of Christ was sawn from the wall and placed above a landing of the staircase in the Quirinal Palace, while three fragments of Apostles and the single figures of five Angels were placed on the wall of the Sacristy of St. Peter's.
