merciful unto him, and they brought | him forth, &c. He prevailed with God to spare Zoar, &c. Haste thee, escape thither: for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither, &c. God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, &c.-Gen xix. 12. 15-22. 29; 2 Pet. ii. 6, 7.

And God said unto Abraham, &c. Of the son of the bond-woman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed. -Gen. xxi. 12, 13.

God spake to Jacob friendly, when he fled from his brother Esau.-Gen. xxviii. 13-15.

Laban said unto Jacob, I have learned by experience, that the Lord hath blessed me for thy sake, &c. Jacob said unto him, &c. The Lord hath blessed thee since my coming, (or at my foot.)-Gen. xxx. 27. 29, 30; Prov. xi. 10, 11.

When Laban was pursuing Jacob, God came to Laban, &c. and said, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad, (or from good to bad,) &c. Laban said, It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed, &c.-Gen. xxxi. 24. 29.

Jacob prevailed with God, &c. have seen God face to face.-Gen. xxxii. 28. 30.

When Jacob and his family were journeying, the terror of God was upon the cities round about them; and God appeared unto Jacob again, and blessed him, &c.-Gen. xxxv. 5.9. 13. The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man, &c. and his master saw that the Lord was with him, and made all that he did to prosper in his hand, &c. The Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake, &c. The Lord was with Joseph, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper, &c. When Joseph had the custody of the prisoners, that which he did, the Lord made it to prosper.-Gen. xxxix. 2, 3. 5. 21-23.

Joseph said unto his brethren, &c. As for you, ye thought evil against me, but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, &c.Gen. 1. 19, 20.

God gave Israel favour in the sight of the Egyptians, and Pharaoh's servants: and Moses, &c. There shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, &c. But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast; that ye may know how that the Lord doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.-Exod. xi. 3. 6, 7.

I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the first-born, &c. and the blood shall be to you for a token, &c. When I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, &c.-Exod. xii. 12, 13.

I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God, &c.— Exod. xxix. 45.

When God had said to Moses, Let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, that I may consume them, &c. Moses prayed for Israel, and prevailed often for them: and the Lord said, I have pardoned according to thy word.-Exod. xxxii. 9-15; Numb. xiv. 11-13. 19, 20.

And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend, &c. When Moses had said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory: He said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, &c. Exod. xxxiii. 11. 17—19; xix. 19, 20; xxxiv. 2, 3. 5, 6.

My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house: with him will I speak mouth to mouth; even apparently, and not in dark speeches: and the similitude of the Lord shall he behold.-Numb. xii. 7,8.

He hath blessed, and I cannot reverse it. He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the Lord his

God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them. Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob; neither is there any divination against Israel. Numb. xxiii. 20, 21. 23;

Deut. xxiii. 5.

David went on, and grew great, and the Lord God of hosts was with him.-2 Sam. v. 10; viii. 14.

I will surely rend the kingdom For what nation so great who hath from thee, &c. Notwithstanding, in God so nigh unto them, as the Lord thy days I will not do it, for David our God is in all things that we call thy father's sake, &c. I will give one upon him for? And what nation so tribe to thy son, for David my sergreat that hath statutes and judg-vant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake, ments so righteous as all this law? which I have chosen.-1 Kings xi. &c.-Did ever people hear the voice 11-13; xv. 4. of God, &c. as thou hast heard, and live?-Deut. iv. 7, 8. 33; Rom. iii. 1, 2.

Thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.-Deut. xiv. 1, 2; xxvi. 17-19.

For the Lord's portion is his people: Jacob is the lot of his inheritance, &c. He led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.-Deut. xxxii. 9, 10; 1 Pet. v. 3; Jer. xii. 7. 10.

The eternal God is thy refuge; and underneath are the everlasting arms, &c.-Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people, saved by the Lord, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thine excellency! -Deut. xxxiii. 27. 29.

At the word of Joshua, the sun stood still, and the moon stayed.Josh. x. 12-14.

When Gideon asked signs of God, he gave them to him.-Judges vi. 17. 21. 36-40.

Manoah entreated the Lord, &c. and God hearkened, &c. And the angel came again, &c.-Judges xiii. 8, 9. 23.

He will keep the feet of his saints. -1 Sam. ii. 9.

The Lord will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because it hath pleased the Lord to make you his people.-1 Sam. xii. 22.

God answered David, when he in his distress had inquired of him.

He only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him is found some good thing toward the Lord God of Israel.-1 Kings xiv. 13.

The prophet Elijah was taken up into heaven.-2 Kings ii. 12.

When the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went together, and wanted water, Elisha the prophet said, &c. Were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee. But now, &c.—2 Kings iii. 6, 7. 9, 10. 14, &c.

God hearkened to Hezekiah, and gave him a sign that God would heal him he brought the shadow ten degrees backward.-2 Kings xx. 9, 10; Isa. xxxviii. 7, 8.

Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, &c.-Job viii. 20.

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, &c. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season: his leaf shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth it shall prosper.-Ps. i. 1. 3.

Know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself.-Ps. iv. 3.

A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation, &c.-Ps. xxii. 30.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want; he maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters.-Ps. xxiii. 1, 2.

All the paths of the Lord are good

ness and truth unto such as keep his covenant, &c. What man is he that feareth the Lord? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose: his soul shall dwell at ease, and his seed shall inherit the earth. The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant (or make them know it.) Ps. xxv. 10. 12-14.

O! how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee! which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence, from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion, from the strife of tongues.-Ps. xxxi. 19, 20; xxvii. 5; xxxvi. 7, 8.

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit is no guile. I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will guide thee with mine eye.-Ps. xxxii. 1,

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; the people he hath chosen for his own inheritance, &c. Behold the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them who hope in his mercy to deliver their soul from death, to keep them alive in famine. —Ps. xxxiii. 12. 18, 19; xxxiv. 7. 9, 10; 1 Kings xvii. 3, 4; Gen. xlv. 6, 7.

The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears open to their cry, &c. None of them who trust in him shall be dessolate.-Ps. xxxiv. 15. 22; v. 11. 12.

holdeth him with his hand, &c. Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging their bread, &c. For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever, &c. Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright; for the end of that man is peace. The salvation of the righte ous is of the Lord; he is their strength in the time of trouble.-Ps. xxxvii. 4. 16. 23-25. 28. 37. 39; Prov. xxix. 7; Ps. cxxviii.

The king's daughter is all glorious within; her clothing is of wrought gold.-Ps. xlv. 13.

The Lord of hosts is with us, the God of Jacob is our refuge.-Ps. xlvi. 7. 11.

Gather my saints unto me, those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.-Ps. 1. 5.

Blessed is the man whom thou choosest to approach unto thee, &c. We shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.-Ps. lxv. 4; xxxvi. 8.

Truly, God is good to Israel, to such as are of a clean heart.-Ps. lxxiii. 1.

The Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. Ps. lxxxiv. 11.

He will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints, &c. His salvation is nigh them that fear him.— Ps. lxxxv. 8, 9.

Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound; they shall walk in the light of thy countenance.-Ps. lxxxix. 15, &c.

The righteous shall flourish like the palm-tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord, shall flourish in the courts of our God: they shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.Ps. xcii. 12—14.

Delight thyself also in the Lord, and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart, &c. A little that a righteous man hath, is better than the riches of many wicked, &c. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord; and he delighteth in his The Lord will not cast off his peoway. Though he fall, he shall not be ple: neither will he forsake his inutterly cast down: for the Lord up-heritance.-Ps. xciv. 14; ix. 10.

He is our God, and we the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Ps. xcv. 7.

He preserveth the souls of his saints, &c. Light is sown for the righteous, &c.-Ps. xcvii. 10, 11; lxxii. 14.

When they were few, &c. he suffered no man to do them wrong; yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.-Ps. cv. 1215; cxxiv. 2, 3; cxxv. 1, 2.

Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord: his seed shall be mighty upon the earth. The generation of the upright shall be blessed, &c. Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be had in everlasting remembrance.-Ps. cxii. 1-4. 6, 7.

As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people, from henceforth even for ever.-Ps. cxxv. 2.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.-Ps. cxvi. 15; lxxii. 14.

The Lord hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure.-Ps. cxxxv. 4; 1 Pet. v. 3. Happy is the people that is in such a case: happy that people, whose God is the Lord.-Ps. cxliv. 15.

He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him he also will hear their cry, and will save them.-Ps. cxlv. 19; John ix. 31.

Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help; whose hope is in the Lord his God.-Ps. cxlvi. 5.

The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.-Ps. cxlvii. 11.

The Lord taketh pleasure in his people, &c. This honour have all his saints.-Ps. cxlix. 4. 9.

The froward is an abomination to the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous.-Prov. iii. 32.

treasures, &c. Blessed are they that keep my ways, &c. who heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors: for whoso findeth me findeth life; and shall obtain favour of the Lord.-Prov. viii. 17. 21. 32. 34, 35; Ps. cxix. 1, 2.

Righteousness delivereth from death: the Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish, &c. Blessings are upon the head of the just, &c. The memory of the just is blessed, &c. The desire of the righteous shall be granted.—Prov. x. 2, 3. 6, 7. 24.

By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted.-Prov. xi. 11.

The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour.-Prov. xii. 26; Ps. xvi. 3.

When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.-Prov. xvi. 7. The righteous are bold as a lion.Prov. xxviii. 1.

The woman, whose heart is snares and nets, &c. Whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her.-Eccles. vii. 26.

Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.-Isa. iii. 10; Eccles. viii. 12; Ps. xxxvii. 10. 11. 17, 18; Isa. lxv. 13, 14.

Bind up the testimony; seal the law among my disciples.-Isa. viii. 16.

He that walketh righteously, (or in righteousness,) &c. he shall dwell on high; his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his water shall be sure; thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty, they shall behold the land that is very far off.-Isa. xxxiii. 15-17.

God caused the sun to go backward ten degrees for a sign to Hezekiah of his recovery.-Isa. xxxviii. 6-8.

Zion said, The Lord hath forsaken me, &c. Can a woman forget her sucking child? &c. Yet will not I forget thee behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.Isa. xlix. 14. 16.

Thy Maker is thy husband, &c. and thy Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, the God of the whole earth, &c. With everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the Lord. No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper, &c. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord; and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.-Isa. liv. 5. 8. 10. 17.

Unto them will I give in my house a place, and a name, better than of sons and of daughters; I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off, &c. Them will I bring unto my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: and their burnt-offerings shall be accepted upon my altar.-Isa. lvi. 5

In all their affliction he was afflicted; and the angel of his presence saved them, &c. Doubtless thou art our Father, &c. Return for thy servant's sake, the tribes of thine inheritance, the people of thine holiness, &c.-Isa. Ixiii. 9. 16-18; lxiv. 9.

Since the beginning of the world, men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him, (or, a God beside thee, who doth so for him who waiteth,) &c.-Isa. lxiv. 4; 1 Cor. ii. 9.

Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, &c. if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth;

and I will pardon it.-Jer. v. 1; Gen. xviii. 26. 32.

Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a pleasant child? Since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still; therefore my bowels are troubled for him: I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the Lord, &c. If the ordinances of heaven cease, then the seed of Israel shall cease from being a nation before me.-Jer. xxxi. 20. 36, 37.

When Jerusalem was taken, and Jeremiah the prophet, the king of Babylon gave charge concerning Jeremiah, &c. Look well to him and do him no harm; but do unto him even as he shall say unto thee.-Jer. xxxix. 11, 12; Numb. xiv. 37, 38.

The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed! &c.-Lam. iv. 2.

God ordered the mark of salvation to be upon his, when all others were to be smitten.-Ezek. ix. 4-6.

Though I have scattered them, &c. yet will I be to them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they shall come.-Ezek. xi. 16.

Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord, &c. they only shall be delivered themselves.-Ezek. xiv. 14. 16. 18. 20.

I sought for a man amongst them that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found none: therefore, &c.Ezek. xxii. 30, 31.

Because thou hast said, &c. These two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the Lord was there, (or though the Lord was there,) therefore, &c.- Ezek. xxxv. 10, 11; Ps. xiv. 5.

O Daniel, a man greatly beloved! &c. O man, greatly beloved! fear not, &c.-Dan. x. 11. 19; ix. 23.
