This title was changed to that of Lieutenant-Governor, when, on the 1st July, 1851, it was separated from New South Wales, and created a separate colony under the name of Victoria.

Affiliated to the University is a college in connexion with the Church of England, and one in connexion with the Presbyterian Church.
