doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I had lost. Likewise, I say unto you, There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth."

It is thus that the Lord Jesus seeks lost sinners, and brings them back to Himself; and it is thus that the angels in heaven rejoice when a man turns from his wicked ways into the paths of goodness. Oh, how much we ought to love our Saviour, and try to do what He bids us!

A DOCTOR of the law came to our Lord,

and asked Him, "Which is the great commandment of the law?" Jesus said unto him, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."

We

These are some of the most important words that were ever spoken to man. must obey them, if we wish to go to heaven.

One day, when a great many people were standing by the Lord, He spoke these words, which are of the greatest concern to all of us :-" I thank Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because Thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father; for

so it seemed good in Thy sight. All things are delivered unto me of my Father; and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal Him."

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls; for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

A certain man thought that our Lord was going to found an earthly kingdom, and that he should become a great man; and he came to Jesus, and said unto Him, "Lord, I will follow Thee whithersoever Thou goest." The Lord replied, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay His head."

Another said to Him, "Lord, I will

follow Thee; but let me first go bid them farewell which are at home at my house." Jesus saw that he was not firm, but that his friends kept him back; and He said to him, "No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."

As the Lord Jesus was sitting in the temple, he saw many rich people putting their money into the treasury. He saw

also a very poor widow woman put in two mites, which make a farthing. And He called His disciples, and said, "Verily I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast more in than all they which have cast into the treasury; for all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living."
