OF THE MIDdle templE, ESQ., BARRISTER-AT-LAW; AUTHOR OF PRINCIPLES
OF BANKRUPTCY," ETC., AND FORMERLY LECTURER ON COMMON LAW
TO THE INCORPORATED LAW SOCIETY.

THIRD EDITION.

"The popularity of this book, which is founded on a course of lectures which Mr. Ringwood delivered in 1887 before the students at the Law Institution, is proved by the fact that it has now reached a third edition. Though primarily intended for students, it can profitably be consulted by the practitioner. . . . Altogether, this edition will fully maintain the position which its predecessors have gained."-Law Journal.

"We are glad to receive a new edition of this useful work, which we noticed in 30 Irish Law Times, page 27, where we pointed out its many excellencies. The present edition contains many fresh cases of importance, especially Allen v. Flood, which is fully dealt with, and its effect on previous decisions. We heartily commend this work (by an Irishman, too) to all students."-Irish Law Times.

"This is a work by the well-known author of a student's book on Bankruptcy. Its groundwork is a series of lectures delivered in 1887 by Mr. Ringwood, as lecturer appointed by the Incorporated Law Society. It is clear, concise, well and intelligently written, and one rises from its perusal with feelings of pleasure. After perusing the entire work, we can conscientiously recommend it to students."-Law Students' Journal. "The work is one we well recommend to law students, and the able way in which it is written reflects much credit upon the author."-Law Times.

Prescribed as a text-book by the Incorporated Law Society of Ireland.

PREFACE

TO THE EIGHTH EDITION.

THIS, the Eighth, Edition contains the Acts, Rules, and other matter which appeared in previous Editions, whilst reference has been made to about ninety new cases of importance decided since 1898. The portion of the work dealing with Bills of Sale, which was entirely re-written for the Sixth Edition, has, as well as the rest of the treatise, been further annotated on the present occasion.

By the excision of what has become obsolete, it has been found possible to include the new decisions without increasing the size of the book by more than about eight pages.

My friend Mr. W. Valentine Ball, M.A., of the North-Eastern Circuit, has prepared the Table of Cases, and has revised the Index, the references under each heading of the latter being, as before, in alphabetical order.

The reader is requested to note up the cases in the Addenda which were reported whilst the work was going through the press.
