Books on Pathology

MacCallum's Pathology

Dr. MacCallum's book presents pathology on the basis of etiology. The discussion is not limited to anatomic and morphologic descriptions, but functional disturbances are fully presented, as well as those of chemical character.

Octavo of 1083 pages, with 575 original illustrations, many in colors. By W. G. MACCALLUM, M.D., College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York. Cloth, $7.50 net.

Mallory's Pathologic Histology

Dr. Mallory presents pathology biologically. First he ascertains the cellular elements out of which the various lesions are built up; then he traces the development of the lesion from the simplest to the most complex form. Octavo of 677 pages, with 497 figures, containing 673 original illustrations, 124 in colors. By FRANK B. MALLORY, M.D., Harvard Medical School. Cloth, $5.50 net.

Mallory & Wright's Technic

This work gives you the technic of bacteriologic methods-media, collection of material, cover-glass preparations, pure cultures, inoculations of animals, anaerobic cultures, bacteriology of the various diseases. Then histologic methods are taken up, followed by the special methods used in clinical bacteriology and pathology.

Octavo of 536 pages, illustrated. By F. B. MALLORY, M.D., Harvard Medical School; and J. H. WRIGHT, M.D., Massachusetts General Hospital. Sixth Edition. Cloth, $3.25 net.

Wells' Chemical Pathology

This work considers pathology from the standpoint of the chemical processes involved. It deals with the chemical changes that take place in pathologic conditions. It treats of the causes of disease, and so provides the first step in their treatment.

Octavo of 616 pages. By H. GIDEON WELLS, PH D., M.D., University of Chicago. Second Edition. Cloth, $3.25 net.

Stengel and Fox's Pathology

This new (6th) edition is virtually a new work. It has been rewritten throughout, reset in new type and a larger type page used. New matter equivalent to 175 pages has been added and some 75 new illustrations. Octavo of 1045 pages, with 468 text-illustrations, many in colors, and 15 colored plates. By ALFRED STENGEL, M.D., and HERBERT FOX, M.D., University of Pennsylvania. Cloth, $6.00 net.

McFarland's Pathology

Dr. McFarland's twenty-two years of teaching has taught him to separate the grain from the chaff. He gives you in these 900 pages a complete survey of pathology, both general and special-matter that ordinarily would require two volumes.

Octavo of 856 pages, with 437 illustrations, some in colors. By JOSEPH MCFARLAND, M.D., University of Pennsylvania. Secona Edition. Cloth, $5.00 net.

Wadsworth's Postmortems

This new work is based on Dr. Wadsworth's sixteen years' constant study of the human body and of some 4000 postmortems. So far as possible the principles are presented rather than rules. The actual technic is explained in detail. Many errors, commonly accepted as facts, are pointed out and corrected.

Octavo of 600 pages, with 304 original illustrations. By WILLIAM S. WADSWORTH, M.D., Coroner's Physician of Philadelphia. Cloth, $6.00 net.

McConnell's Pathology

Dr. McConnell gives you here in concise form the essentials of pathology, avoiding all unnecessary theory and discussion, adhering closely to the strictly practical The entire field is covered, including postmortem examination, laboratory technic-fixing, decalcification, injection, imbedding, exact formulas for staining, eto.

12mo of 600 pages, 187 illustrations, By GUTHRIE MCCONNELL, M.D. Third Edition. Cloth, $2.75 net.

Feeding the World

without depleting soil fertility is a presentday problem of no little magnitude. Cyril George Hopkins, Professor of Agronomy in the University of Illinois; and Chief in Agronomy and Chemistry, and Vice Director in the Illinois Agricultural Experiment Station, has written a book to teach "land use without abuse." He shows the farmer or agricultural student how to bring his land to the highest productivity through proper crop-rotation, and application of fertilizers; at the same time retaining for future generations the natural fertility of soil. Why not investigate?

Langmuir Condensation Pump

Dr. Irving Langmuir (of the General ElectrioCo.) has developed an exceedingly interesting and valuable high-speed, high-vacuum pump, and by special agreement with the makers, we are acting as sole distributors, for laboratory purposes.

With this pump pressures as low as 10-5 bar have been obtained; and there is little doubt that very much lower pressures can be produced, by cooling the bulb to be exhausted, in liquid air, so as to decrease the rate at which gases escape from the walls.

Some type of primary pump must be used; capable of developing a vacuum not less than 0.1-0.15 mm. of mercury. The illustration shows a Langmuir

pump, connected to a two-stage primary oil pump-which is operated by a HP motor; all three parts of the outfit being assembled together on one base.
