THE writing of these simple thoughts has been to me a benefit and pleasure; but I cannot know that the reading of them will be profitable to others: but it is my hope that this venture of an unknown writer may be kindly received, and that to some this little book will yield companionship and sympathy. If it stimulate one to thought about the Inner Life, if it render the Inner Life more vivid and real, if it help any in the heavenward path to press onwards and upwards, if it attract to Him who alone can make our Inner as our Outer Life true, good, and beautiful, I shall be devoutly thankful.
