PSALM XIII.

1.

GOD of my strength, the wise, the just, To Thee my spirit I intrust;

From Thee, when terrors clos'd me round, My soul its full redemption found.

2.

Thy mercy shall my thanks employ, For thou hast fill'd my heart with joy; Hast call'd me thine, and bid me share The gifts of thy paternal care.

3.

Oh! how shall all who seek thy love
The fulness of thy bounty prove?

And teach the conscious world to see

How blest the souls that trust in Thee?

PSALM XIV.

1.*

As, panting in the sultry beam,
The hart desires the cooling stream,
So to thy presence, Lord, I flee,—
So longs my soul, O God, for Thee;
Athirst to taste thy living grace,
And see thy glory face to face,

2.

But rising griefs distress my soul,
And tears on tears successive roll;
For many an evil voice is near,
To chide my woe, and check my
And silent mem'ry weeps alone

fear;

O'er hours of peace and gladness flown.

(PART SECOND.)

3.

I, (who have walk'd the happy round,
That circles Sion's holy ground;)
Have gladly swell'd the choral lays,
That hymn'd my great Redeemer's praise,
What time the hallow'd choirs along,
Responsive swell'd the solemn song.

4.

And why, by passing clouds opprest,
Should vexing thoughts distract thy breast?
Turn, turn to him, in every pain,
Whom never suppliant sought in vain,—
Thy strength, while lasts thy earthly day,
Thy hope, when joy has pass'd away.

PSALM XV.

1.

OH God! my heart within me faints,
And pours its sighs in deep complaints;
Yet many a thought shall linger still
By Carmel's height, and Tabor's rill,—
The Olive Mount my Saviour trod,-
The rocks that saw, and own'd their God.

2.

My soul shall cry to Thee, oh Lord,--
To Thee, supreme incarnate Word;
My rock and fortress, shield and friend→
Creator, Saviour, source, and end;
And thou wilt hear thy servant's pray'r,
Though death and darkness speak despair.

PASLM XVI.

(PART FIRST.)

How sweet thy dwellings, Lord, how fair,
What peace, what bliss inhabit there;
With ardent hope, with strong desire,
My heart, my flesh, to Thee aspire;
I burn to tread thy courts, and Thee,
My God-the living God-to see.
Eternal King, within thy dome,
The sparrow finds her peaceful home!
Secure the swallow builds her nest,

And here the suppliant, man, may rest.
