GOSPEL. John xiv. 23. 31.
AT that time: Jesus said to his disciples: If any one love me, he will keep my words, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our abode with him: he that lovetli me not, keepeth not my words. And the words you have heard, are not my own, but the Father's who sent me. I have told you these things, being present with you: but the Comforter the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and recal to your remembrance all things whatever I shall say to you. I leave you peace, I give -you my peace: I give it you, not as the world giveth it. Let not your hearts be troubled nor afraid. You have heard me say to you j I am going; but I will return again to you. If you loved me, you would really rejoice, because I am going to the Father, and the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it cometh to pass, that when it shall come to pass, you may believe. I shall not now speak much more to you; for the prince of this world is coming, and there is nothing in me that belongeth to him; but that the world may know that I love the Father, and that I do as the Father hath commanded me. Credo.

LESSON. Acts x. 42. 48.
IN those days: Peter opening his mouth, said: Brethren, the Lord commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify, that it is he,- who is appointed by God, the judge of the living and the dead. To him all the Prophets bear witness, that whoever believeth in him, shall, through his name, obtain pardon of their sins. While Peter was yet speaking these words, the Holy Ghost came upon all that heard the word. And the faithful of the circumcision, who came with Peter, were astonished, for that the grace of the Holy Ghost was also poured upon the Gentiles; for they heard them speak new tongues, and glorify God. Then Peter said: Can any one forbid water, that these people should not be baptized, who have Vol. n. r *
received the Holy Ghost, even as we have? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

GOSPEL. John iii. 16. 21.
AT that time: Jesus said to Nicodemus: God hath so loved the world, as to give his only Son, that whoever believeth in him, may not perish, but may have eternal life. For God sent not his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved by him. He that believeth in him, is not judged at all; but he that believeth not in him, is already judged; because he believeth not in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And the judgment is this: because the light is come into the world, and men loved darkness more than light, because their works were evil. For every one that doth evil, hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, that his works may not be reproved: but he that doth the truth, cometh to the light, that his works may be seen, because they were done in God Credo.
