M. It likes me well, December's breath, Nor yet the year is sealed in death, 'Tis only growing old. - Mrs. ADALINE P. LUNT. Farmer's Calendar. Cold ONCE more we approach the end of the year, and are reminded that time never awaits our pleasure, but keeps moving, whether we are ready or not. As winter approaches there are many little things that claim attention. Especially is this true of the farmer, for much of his work, if not done before winter sets in, cannot be done before spring, or perhaps not at all. But there is a very important work that can be done during the long winter evenings, viz., that of looking over his accounts to ascertain if he has made both ends meet the past year, making out bills that are due him and making an effort to collect them, settling at the same time with every person he owes, paying him if possible. He can also take account of stock to ascertain as nearly as possible how much he possesses, and about what he owes; and if he did this last year he will be able to tell very near what he has made or lost the past year. Do not crowd the sheep into too small houses, but give them plenty of well-ventilated room to stay in nights, and large, sunny, open sheds during the day-time. Open sheds should also be provided for young stock to air themselves in, and a separate one for milch cows. COURTS OF THE UNITED STATES. (Corrected September, 1897. U. S. Congress may make changes.)
